BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana volleyball coach Steve Aird announced the signing of 5-foot-10 setter Natalia Hagopian (pronounced nuh-tall-e-uh; huh-go-pe-in) to the program on Wednesday (Jan. 11) morning.
The Laguna Beach, Calif. native played her freshman season at Northeastern University and will join the Hoosiers with three years of eligibility remaining. She has enrolled for the spring semester.
"Nat is a great addition to our program," Aird said. "She is a polished volleyball player with the ability to do a variety of skills well. She fits our system and plays hard. Most importantly, she is a wonderful human being and a great teammate. We are all excited to get back in the gym and build on a solid season".
During her three seasons in high school, her junior year canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hagopian played in 255 sets, dishing out 1,429 assists while recording 454 digs and 109 aces.
In her freshman campaign at Northeastern, she recorded 57 assists and 20 digs including a double-double (38 assists, 10 digs) in the season opener against UTEP.
Hagopian played her club volleyball for Mizuno Long Beach Volleyball Club. She joins Camryn Haworth and incoming freshman Luca Fickell as the team's setters for the 2023 season.
She will become the 12th California native to play for IU and the first since Emily Fitzner (2019-2022).
"It means a lot to be joining the Indiana Volleyball program," Hagopian said. "It allows me to attend an amazing university and play the best volleyball I possibly can. I am very humbled by this opportunity and very excited to join the Indiana family!"
