IU Women, Divers Dominate Big Ten Award Cycle

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana swimming and diving swept the women's Big Ten weekly awards as part of four total honors for the Hoosiers announced by the conference office on Wednesday (Jan. 18).

IU also swept the diving awards as redshirt senior Andrew Capobianco earned his sixth-career Big Ten Diver of the Week award and junior Anne Fowler captured her second. Senior Noelle Peplowski tallied her second-career Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honor, while Kristina Paegle was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for a third time this season.

Indiana's men's and women's teams beat No. 15/13 Michigan on Saturday (Jan. 13) in IU's first dual meet of the spring. The Hoosiers won 28 of the 32 events.

Men's Diver of the Week: Andrew Capobianco
Â
In his first meet of the 2022-23 season, Capobianco swept the men's diving events while scoring 412.95 points on the 1-meter springboard and 427.65 points on 3-meter. In the 3-meter competition, Capobianco executed two dives worth 89 points or better. His final dive, a 109C, earned him 96.90 points.

Women's Swimmer of the Week: Noelle Peplowski
Â
Peplowski went 3-for-3 individually and swept the breaststroke events on Saturday to earn her first Big Ten award of the season. The senior was the only swimmer to post a sub-one-minute time in the 100-yard breaststroke at 59.93, then won the 200 breast by three seconds after touching in 2:09.40. Then, in the 200 IM, Peplowski posted the only sub-two-minute time in 1:59.69.

Peplowski also contributed to IU's 200 medley relay victory after splitting the fastest breaststroke leg in 27.64.

Women's Diver of the Week: Anne Fowler
Â
Fowler swept the women's diving events. On the 1-meter board, Fowler tallied 304.13 points, and then earned 343.05 on the 3-meter. In the latter competition, Fowler tallied three dives scoring better than 60 points.

Women's Freshman of the Week: Kristina Paegle
Â
Paegle won all four events she swam on Saturday, two individual and two relays. The freshman out-touched Michigan sophomore Lindsay Flynn by .09 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle, going 22.40, before also claiming victory in the 100-yard race in 49.60.

Paegle also posted the fastest freestyle splits in IU's victories in the 200 medley relay (21.68) and 400 freestyle relay (49.18).
