Bob Bostad | Run Game Coordinator/Offensive Line
On what attracted him to Indiana...
BB: Besides the obvious, I have run into [Tom] Allen quite a bit and I know people that know him, and I have been doing this a long time and you kind of get to a point where you want to work with quality people - high quality people - and he is absolutely that. That was a big part for me, and obviously I love the Big Ten, that's not paramount, but working for Coach Allen is huge for me.
On what creates good offensive line play
BB: I think when you start from the very beginning you have to find out, who do we have. Who are our players. What can we do and what are the things we are able to do well. How are we built and what do we have here right now that would allow us to do certain schemes well.
Once you figure those things out, then I do think it is huge to work together. I think continuity is huge. I don't like to play musical chairs and move guys around alot, you know experimenting. You'd like to have some answers in place before [the first game]. You only get so many reps at each time and distance, so you'd like to be efficient with their time, because they are only going to be on the field for so long. I think those are the things that lead into [good offensive line play].
On if he has had time to look at what he has on the roster...
BB: I have been mostly on the road recruiting, so i have not had a ton of time. I certainly met with my guys one-on-one and met with them as a group. It hasn't been a ton. I have watched them on film, so I have formulated some things. I don't think I have got to that point where I can say, 'hey, it's day one of spring ball and here is how we are lining up and here is the starting five.' or anything else like that.
Right now, I am just trying to get to know the guys as much as I can. Once we come off the road that will really pick up, that will really fast forward. Right now, it is just a voluntary deal that they have on their own and I got a chance to see them after being gone all week. So, it hasn't been too extensive.
On his knowledge of the offensive linemen in the incoming class...
BB: I didn't really have to re-recruit them much. I think their relationship with Coach Allen was really strong. So, for me, it was sign on the dotted line, get on the road, go see these guys - a couple of these guys already had official visits already, so it was me going out and seeing them.
I had known some of these guys from before, but we had one coming on an official visit with his family, so that was really good to spend some time with him. Coach Allen did such a good job with those guys that we did not have to play that game.
