Opening Tip
• Indiana University continues its 124th season of competition in men's basketball at the Empire Classic against No. 5/4 UConn. The game will be played at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19, at Madison Square Garden. The game will carry a national television broadcast on ESPN.
• The Huskies enter the contest with a 3-0 record after lopsided victories over Northern Arizona (95-52), Stonehill (107-67), and Mississippi Valley (87-53).
• UConn, the defending NCAA champion, is led by sixth-year head coach Dan Hurley.

• Sophomore center Kel'el Ware, a transfer from Oregon, leads the team in points per game (18.3), rebounds (10.0), blocks (2.0), shooting percentage (74.1%), and minutes (33.0).
• The North Little Rock, Ark., native posted his first career double-double (13p, 12r) in his Indiana debut against Florida Gulf Coast (Nov. 7). His second-career double-double came against Wright State (Nov. 16) with 22 points and 12 boards.
• Junior forward Payton Sparks made his Hoosier debut in the 72-64 win over Army on Nov. 12. The Ball State transfer produced two points and four rebounds in just nine minutes of run.

• Sophomore forward Malik Reneau has scored at least 14 points in all three games this season, including a career-high 16 points against Wright State (Nov. 16).
• The Miami, Fla., native is averaging 15.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.3 blocks in 30 minutes per game.

• Sixth-year guard Xavier Johnson returned for his sixth season of college basketball after receiving a medical hardship waiver following a season-ending injury in 2022-23.
• In his first game as captain of the Hoosiers, 'X' compiled 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor, four rebounds, and one assist.
• The former Pitt Panther is averaging 14.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.
• Johnson was born on Oct. 14, 1999, making him one of the 45 oldest players currently in college basketball. He is one of 70 players to be born prior to the year 2000.
