Slim Margins Separate Hoosiers, Buckeyes in Columbus

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Each set was settled by the minimum two points on Saturday night (Nov. 4) at the Covelli Center as the Indiana volleyball team (17-10, 7-7) fell in four sets (23-25, 29-27, 23-25, 23-25) to Ohio State.
Senior middle blocker Savannah Kjolhede went for 11 kills on 15 errorless swings while junior setter Camryn Haworth provided 40 assists and three aces on the evening.
Ohio State was efficient offensively with 67 kills while hitting .310 for the match. Senior All-American outside hitter Emily Londot went for 25 kills and 21 digs in a winning effort.
The Hoosiers return home next Friday for a matchup with Rutgers before taking on Minnesota on Sunday afternoon at Wilkinson Hall.

• Saturday's match was separated by just four total points with each game decided by the minimum two points. Ohio State won the battle offensively by hitting .310 on the night (67-19-155).
• IU recorded eight service aces led by three from Haworth. The Hoosiers blocked eight shots but were out dug by the Buckeyes (71-60).
• In matches at Illinois, Northwestern and Ohio State over the past two weeks, IU dropped six sets by just two points. IU never got beaten by more than five in a set during those three matches.
• Three Hoosiers went for 10+ kills led by 14 from senior outside hitter Morgan Geddes. Alonso-Corcelles and Haworth both had double-doubles in the match.
#10 Haworth, Camryn
• Haworth tallied her eighth double-double of the season with 40 assists and 11 digs. She also came through with four blocks and three aces.
• She now has 61 aces on the season and 152 for her IU career. Her 61 aces are the most in a single season at IU since Jen Magelssen (62) in 1995.
• On the weekend, she went for 88 kills (11 p/s) and 26 digs. She's just 18 assists away from back-to-back seasons with 1,000 assists.
#15 Kjolhede, Savannah
• The Colleyville, Texas native was outstanding offensively on Saturday night producing 11 kills on 15 errorless swings. She also blocked four shots and recorded a service ace on the evening.
#16 Geddes, Morgan
• Despite taking a heavy load of out-of-system swings, Geddes provided 14 kills on the evening. For the weekend, she had 32 kills in eight sets (four per set).

Set 1: Ohio State 25, Indiana 23
• Kjolhede went for four kills on five errorless swings as IU hit .214 in the opening set. Ohio State was outstanding on offense, hitting .318 as a team in the first set.
• Freshman libero Ramsey Gary had seven digs with sophomore outside hitter Candela Alonso-Corcelles digging six balls but Ohio State won a tight first set 25-23.
• Haworth went on a tremendous run of serve to spark a 5-0 run and tie the game at 8-all early in the first set. Haworth would block Londot later in the set to give IU a 20-18 lead and force an Ohio State timeout.
• Out of a timeout, Haworth went wide on a swing at 22-all to give Ohio State the lead. The Buckeyes responded with a service error but rallied to score the final two points of the set.
Set 2: Indiana 29, Ohio State 27
• With sophomore opposite hitter Avry Tatum getting involved offensively in the second set, IU rallied late to win 29-27 and tie the match.
• As a team, the Hoosiers hit .343 (16-4-35) and had two aces and three blocks to fend off a pair of set points late in the frame.
• With Ohio State on set point, head coach Steve Aird pulled out the challenge card to reverse a call, spotting a net violation by the Buckeyes. A kill from Geddes and a bad set from Ohio State aided the Hoosiers on the final points of the second frame.
Set 3: Ohio State 25, Indiana 23
• After going down by seven points in the third set, IU responded and rallied to tie things at 23-all but Ohio State's .412 hitting percentage (18-4-34) in the set was too much to stop.
• IU aced Ohio State four times in the set including a pair from Haworth but Londot provided the hosts with six crucial kills in the 25-23 win.
• Junior outside hitter Kenzie Daffinee subbed in to serve and brought the Hoosiers within one after an ace and an attacking error from Ohio State.
• Geddes connected on a massive kill to make it 23-all but the Buckeyes punched back once more on the final two points to win the third set.
Set 4: Ohio State 25, Indiana 23
• Long rallies were the story of the fourth set as 24 digs from Ohio State, six from Londot, helped keep plays alive to help the hosts put the match on ice.
• IU brought the set within one on several occasions including at 20-21 and 21-22 but Ohio State slowly pulled away, making it 21-24 and giving it a trio of match points to play with.
• Subbed in to serve, Daffinee's serve forced Ohio State into an attacking error but her final serve sailed into the net to give Ohio State the win.
