BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Leading by example.
Indiana men's soccer senior captains JT Harms and defender Joey Maher were named College Sports Communicators second-team Academic All-America honorees Tuesday (Dec. 19) for their excellence on the pitch and in the classroom.
Indiana has produced three academic All-Americans in the last two seasons, with Ryan Wittenbrink winning the distinction a year ago as well.
For Maher, this award complements his United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America honor earned last week. Maher graduated from Indiana University on Friday with a degree in accounting, having earned a 3.691 GPA. He is also a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
Harms has earned a 3.98 GPA as a sport marketing and management major. He was also named Academic All-Big Ten this season, his first year eligible.
Harms and Maher led Indiana to nine clean sheets, ranking tied for 10th nationally, with a 0.777 goals against average, 11th in the country. IU won the Big Ten regular season and tournament championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals.
