BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Continuing a recent trend of Indiana volleyball players playing at the professional level, graduate student middle blocker Kaley Rammelsberg has signed her first pro contract to play for LiigaPloki in Finland's Mestaruusliiga beginning in the 2024 season.
A three-year starter for IU after transferring from High Point, Rammelsberg returned to full health in 2023 and produced one of the best seasons in program history. She hit .365 (top-five in the Big Ten) and totaled 281 kills and 110 blocks as the Hoosiers matched a program record for regular season wins (21).
"Playing professionally is something that I have dreamed about since I was a little girl," Rammelsberg said. " The IU program has helped me develop into the player that I am which has allowed me to pursue these opportunities. I would not be where I am today without Steve, Kevin, Brett and Rachel."
For her career at IU, Rammelsberg finished with a collective .329 offensive clip, the second-best mark in program history. Despite missing 10 games with injury during her junior season, she averaged 2.10 kills per set in her three years in Bloomington.
Through five seasons of college volleyball, Rammelsberg totaled over 1,000 kills, 400 blocks and finished with a hitting percentage of well over .340. She was the Big South Freshman of the Year in 2019 and a Second Team All-Big Ten selection in 2023.
"Kaley's goal was to put herself in a position when she graduated to play at the professional level. She has certainly done just that," head coach Steve Aird said. "A dynamic athlete that proved she could compete with the nation's best, I am certain her game will translate at the next level. She is tough, competes hard and is grateful for her experience at IU. I am extremely proud of Kaley and can't wait to follow her career."
Rammelsberg graduated with her undergraduate degree in Liberal Studies in May of 2023 and will join the team in Pihtipudas, Finland at the beginning of 2024.
