Indiana Men’s Tennis Drops Close Match to UC Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. ––––– No. 72 Indiana Men's Tennis lost in a close match at No. 38 UC Santa Barbara on Thursday, 4-3, at the Arnhold Tennis Center.
The match featured some intense doubles play with it coming down to the wire for the point.
Indiana's Sam Landau and Luc Boulier won at No. 2 doubles, 6-4, and UCSB's No. 3 doubles duo won shortly after to put the fate of the doubles point in the No. 1 doubles match.
Patrick Fletchall and Ilya Tiraspolslsky dug deep and clawed their way to a win at No. 1 doubles, 7-6 (7-5) to claim the doubles point for the Hoosiers.
From there, UCSB found momentum in singles matches, winning at No. 5, 2 and 6 singles to take a 3-1 lead.
Indiana's Sam Landau picked up a win at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-4, to make it a 3-2 match.
UCSB clinched the team win at No. 1 singles not long after Landau's win.
Indiana's Ilya Tiraspolsky closed out the day with an impressive win at No. 4 singles that went three sets. He defeated Gianluca Brunkow, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 to make it a 4-3 final.
With the loss, Indiana's season record falls to 10-6.
Indiana will be back in action for their opening match of Big Ten play at noon on Saturday, March 25 at Purdue.
