Taylor, Tibbitts B1G in Weekend Sweep

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Off of a Big Ten opening sweep of Ohio State, the Indiana baseball program saw sophomore Brock Tibbitts and freshman Devin Taylor each earn weekly honors from the conference office on Monday (March 27).
Tibbitts was named the Big Ten Player of the Week for the first time in his career and is the first IU hitter to earn the honor since Cole Barr in 2021. Taylor earned a share of the Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor and has been honored by the conference office for the second straight week.
The duo helped Indiana to its first 3-0 start in Big Ten play since 2019 and extended its home winning streak to 15 straight games dating back to 2022. The three wins also moved the current winning streak to seven games, which is tied for the seventh longest active streak in college baseball.
Tibbitts posted a 1.339 OPS to go along with a .500 batting average in four starts on the week. He reached base in each game to move his streak to seven straight games on base and posted three straight multi-hit games to start the week. He logged seven RBIs and eight runs scored with at least one run scored in each game and at least one RBI in three of the four games on the week.
The New Albany, Ohio, native was on-base four time in a midweek win over Indiana State with three hits and one walk. He scored four runs and drove in one RBI. Versus the Buckeyes, Tibbitts plated four RBIs in the series opening win on three hits, with a solo home run, a pair of RBI base hits and a sacrifice fly. He chipped in two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs in the middle game of the series, then walked and scored a run in the series finale.
Taylor had at least one hit in each game on the week to move his hitting streak to four games and his reached base streak to 13 straight. He hit .385 with five runs scored and a team-best eight RBIs in four starts in the outfield. The rookie scored a run in all four contests and drove in multiple RBIs in three of four games on the week.
Against Indiana State, Taylor was on base three times and drove in three RBIs in the midweek win. He doubled, walked and was hit-by-pitch in the game, and scored two runs. The left-handed hitter plated the eventual game-winning runs with a two-RBI double in the fourth inning of IU's comeback win over Ohio State in the series opener with a 3-for-3 day at the plate, three RBIs and one run scored. He scored twice with a base hit and two walks in the middle game and then hit his fourth home run of the season and first Big Ten home run in the series finale, a two-run shot in the third inning.
