BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – No. 18 Indiana dropped its MPSF home opener to No. 1 Stanford at Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center on Saturday afternoon 16-7.

KEY MOMENTS

Indiana kept things close in the first, going goal-for-goal with the nation's top team. Sophomore Grace Hathaway evened things up at the 3:37 mark while freshman Louisa Downes scored another equalizer 30 seconds later.
Downes scored her second goal of the day with just one second remaining in the first to take a 3-3 tie to the second. Stanford scored five unanswered in the second as Indiana found itself down, 8-3 at the break.
Senior Zoe Crouch scored IU's only goal in the third on a 6-on-5 opportunity, but the Cardinal again put on the offensive pressure and took a 12-4 lead. The Hoosiers added a trio of goals in the fourth but Stanford piled on another four to take away the game, 16-7.

NOTES

The Hoosiers are now 13-8 and 0-2 in MPSF action.
Downes led the way for IU with three goals. Tyner joined her with multiple goals with two.
Graduate student goalie Mary Askew recorded all 32 minutes in goal. She had three of IU's seven steals.
Sophomore Sophia Sollie drew three earned exclusions.
Five different players had an assist.
