Indiana Wrestling Wraps Up Competition at Big Ten Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. ––––– Indiana Wrestling finished competition at the Big Ten Championships Sunday afternoon at the Crisler Center as action from Session III and IV concluded for the weekend.

The highlight of the afternoon came from Indiana senior heavyweight Jacob Bullock who went 2-0 in the 9^th place bracket. Bullock's win punched his ticket to the 2023 NCAA Championships, this will be his first career appearance in the championships.

The senior won his ninth place semifinal match over No. 12 Ryan Vasbinder (Michigan State) by decision, 7-4. He followed that up with a close win over No. 11 Garrett Joles of Minnesota in a 4-3 decision.

Joles and Bullock were tied at 3-3 after the second period. The third period began with Bullock on top and rode Joles out the entire two minutes to win by decision 4-3 via the riding time point.

Bullock was the third Hoosier to clinch an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships along with Graham Rooks (149) and Derek Gilcher (157).

Indiana also had three placers in Rooks, Gilcher and Donnell Washinton (174).

Rooks finished in fifth at 149 lbs. In the fifth place match, No. 3 Yahya Thomas (Northwestern), Rooks' scheduled opponent medically forfeited.

Gilcher finished in eight place at 157 lbs. He narrowly lost his seventh place match to No. 5 Cobe Siebrecht (Iowa) by a 2-0 decision.

Washington also took eight place for 174 lbs. Washington dropped an 8-4 decision to No. Jackson Turley (Rutgers).

The at-large bids to fill out the remaining bids available in the NCAA Championships will be announced on Wednesday, March 8 at 8 p.m. during the NCAA Wrestling Championships Selection Show.
