BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana associate head coach Glenn Box has been named to the 2023 Advancement of Blacks in Sports assistant/associate coach watch list.
Box is in his seventh season with the program and his third as associate head coach. In his seven seasons, nine Hoosier guards have earned a total of 15 All-Big Ten honors including four-straight All-Big Ten first team honors for graduate student guard Grace Berger. Five Hoosier guards earned All-Big Ten honors this year including Berger, junior guard Chloe Moore-McNeil, freshman guard Yarden Garzon, junior guard Sydney Parrish, and senior guard Sara Scalia. He is instrumental in the team's defensive success, including this season where the team leads the Big Ten holding 62.3 points per game and shooting just 38.9 percent from the floor. Senior forward Mackenzie Holmes became the program's first Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year in 2022-23 as Holmes and Moore-McNeil each earned spots on the league's All-Defensive team. In all, four players have placed on the league's annual postseason all-defensive team under Box, including four of the seven all-time honors in program history. He has helped the Hoosiers to a WNIT Championship and three NCAA Tournament appearances.
The list includes the NCAA's top Black men's and women's head and assistant coaches from across the country. This year's list features 26 head coaches and 40 rising assistant coaches from midlevel and major NCAA programs as recognized by their peers as some of the best in the business. Those nominated are considered to be the year's most deserving, qualified, and prepared Black coaches in the NCAA to elevate their careers to the next level.
This ABIS Black Coaches Watchlist is shared annually with athletic administrators and executive search firms in efforts to highlight their contributions as the hiring cycle for men's and women's basketball begins.
