LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A big day across 100 meters for the Indiana sprinters resulted in a school record for Antonio Laidler and top-10 program marks from Alyssa Robinson and Christopher Grant on Saturday (April 15) at the Louisville Invitational.
Laidler and Grant stormed to an impressive 1-2 finish in the 100 meters with personal best marks of 10.20 and 10.28 respectively.
The 10.20 run by Laidler matched the school record in the event run by Rikkoi Brathwaite in the summer of 2022. Brathwaite ran his August of last year meaning Laidler now owns the fastest time in program history run within the parameters of the collegiate season.
Grant's 10.28 improved vastly on his 10.37 lifetime best which was run at Auburn in April of 2022. He moves into sixth in program history in the event. Three of IU's top-10 fastest sprinters in the 100 meters have now come within the last two seasons.
The duo paired with Trelee Banks and John Colquitt to run a season's best of 40.44 in the 4x100 relay, the first time the Hoosiers have passed the baton around in under 40.5 this outdoor campaign.
Robinson ran her first race at 100 meters in two years, winning the women's section in 11.45 with Serena Bolden in fourth at 11.82.
The Indianapolis native, Robinson, set a meet record and moved into No. 4 in program history in the event. She is the only woman in program history with top-8 program marks outdoors in the three sprint events (100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters).
IU's sprinters and hurdlers had a productive day on the track with additional personal bests in the 400-meter hurdles (Micah Camble, 52.70), 400 meters (Jaylen Crimes, 49.38) and 200 meters (John Colquitt, 21.67) highlighting a successful Saturday afternoon.
Jaylen Castillo (1:51.43) and Andrew Anderson (1:53.26) ran personal bests in the 800 meters. Castillo would later come back and split a 49.6 anchor leg for IU's winning 4x400 relay team.
Alyssa Skorge shaved six seconds off her personal best in the 1500 meters, stopping the clock in 4:31.63. Audrey Mendrys followed behind her with a lifetime best of 4:46.98.
Bolden had the busiest day in Louisville, racing the 100 meters while doubling in the long jump and triple jump.
After running 11.82 in the 100 meters, she came back and jumped a massive 6.44m/21-1.5 (+2.3) that was just above the threshold of legal wind. Her mark sits No. 3 in the Big Ten this season, just behind teammate Paola Fernandez-Sola's jump of 6.49m/21-3.5 from last week's Tennessee Invite.
Bolden was consistent across her entire series, jumping over six meters on four occasions, three of which were within the legal wind limit.
To close out her night, she went and triple jumped 12.68m/41-7.25, a mark which sits No. 6 in the Big Ten and No. 5 in program history.
Kelly Moran enjoyed a third-consecutive successful weekend on the runway, jumping a lifetime best of 5.68m/18-7.75 in the long jump.
Mahogany Jenkins attempted to match the program record in the high jump, pushing the bar to 1.83m/6-0 for three tries to close out the competition.
She narrowly missed on all three tries, sending her home with a season's best mark of 1.78m/5-10. Only one athlete in program history has eclipsed six feet or better in the high jump, a club that Jenkins keeps inching closer to.
Nathan Stone cleared a season's best of 5.35m/17-6.5 before missing on three tries at what would have been a personal best of 5.52m/18-1.25 in the pole vault.
IU's vaulters enjoyed a successful day with Tyler Carrel (5.25m/17-2.75) matching a season's best, Riley Johnston clearing a lifetime best of 5.15m/16-10.75 and Jessica Mercier moving to No. 9 in program history at 3.90m/12-9.5.
All four of IU's athletes in the men's long jump recorded marks of seven meters or better, led by Robert Blue's jump of 7.38m/24-2.5.
IU's full roster will return to action for the first home meet of the outdoor campaign, the Indiana Invitational next Friday (April 21) and Saturday (April 22) in Bloomington.
