Indiana Softball Travels to Michigan for Final Road Series

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana softball (34-15, 12-5 B1G) travels to Michigan (24-18, 10-7 B1G) to compete in their final road match up of the regular season at Carol Hutchins Stadium this weekend in Ann Arbor, Mich.

LAST TIME OUT
- Indiana earned their fourth conference sweep at Rutgers (7-3, 9-0, 5-4).
- Freshman Taryn Kern earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week after hitting .500 on the weekend with a 1.250 slugging percentage and a 1.583 OPS with two hits, five walks and three hit by pitch.
- Freshman Cassidy Kettleman hit her first career home run in the Hoosiers, 9-0, shutout win in game two.
- Sophomore pitcher Heather Johnson picked up two wins allowing only three hits and one walk.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- Michigan (24-18, 10-7 B1G) dropped the series against No. 21 Northwestern. U-M fell, 4-3, in game one after playing 11 innings. They bounced back in game two against the Wildcats with a 15-0 run-rule shutout in five innings. The Wolverines fell 3-0 at home in the final game of the series.
- Sophomore pitcher Lauren Derkowski is tied first in the Big Ten with nine conference wins and ranks second in ERA (1.51) and strikeouts (87) in league play. She tossed a one-hit shutout against Northwestern and two no-hitters against Purdue on the season.
- Graduate Lexie Blair leads the Michigan offense hitting .364 on the season with 13 doubles. She has tallied 43 hits, 22 runs for 22 RBI.
- The Wolverines are batting .267 on the season with 287 hits for 163 runs. They have tallied 41 doubles, seven triples and 19 home runs with 147 RBI.
SERIES NOTES
- The Hoosiers are 29-94 against the Wolverines.
- IU dropped the last series matchup in Bloomington with U-M, claiming four games in the series.
SWEEP, SWEEP - HOOSIERS ARE CLEANIN' UP
- Indiana won its first three series going 9-0 to start conference play sweeping No. 22 Maryland, Purdue and Ohio State.
- They earned their fourth conference sweep of the season against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
- Team 50 is etching itself in the record book after setting new single-season records for most home runs, RBI and runs scored.
- Indiana is on pace to set season records in four additional categories: hits, doubles, stolen bases and batting average.

- Kern hit .500 on the weekend in the series sweep over Rutgers, boasting a 1.250 slugging percentage and a 1.583 OPS.
- She hit her 19th home run leading the conference and NCAA.
- She totaled two hits, five walks and three hit by pitch for five runs scored.
- The San Jose, Calif., native leads the Big Ten in seven categories: slugging percentage (.983), OBS (.599), OPS (1.582), RBI (57), home runs (19), walks (38), and hit by pitch (18).
- The IU freshman is second in runs scored (54) and third in conference in batting average (.420).
- Kern has reached base in 41 consecutive games and has nine multi-RBI games on the season.
- She hit her 17th career bomb against Minnesota to break the single-season home run record that was set by IU Hall of Famer and Olympian Michelle Venturella in 1994.
- The 19th long ball on the season puts Kern at the top of the NCAA leaderboard in home runs.
HOOSIER BATS ON FIRE
- Indiana leads the Big Ten in batting with a .319 average on the season. The cream and crimson have totaled 391 hits, 82 doubles, nine triples, and 63 home runs.
- They have tallied 313 RBI along with 178 free passes and 77 hit by the pitch.
THE NEXT 60 FEET
- Indiana leads the conference with 94 stolen bases.
- IU's eight stolen bases against IUPUI is the most in a game from a Big Ten school this season.
