Indiana Men’s Tennis Advances to Quarterfinals of Big Ten Tournament

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –––– The Indiana Men's Tennis team defeated No. 8 seed Penn State in the tournament's opening match in dramatic fashion, 4-3, on Thursday afternoon.
The host Hoosiers entered the tournament as the No. 9 seed and were coming off a 4-3 loss at Penn State this past Saturday. With the win today, Indiana has advanced to the tournament's quarterfinal round.
The Hoosiers started the match off on the right foot with No. 1 and No. 2 doubles earning smooth victories to put them in front, 1-0.
Indiana freshman Ekansh Kumar won at No. 6 singles as the first singles match to finish and put the Hoosiers up 2-0. Penn State won at No. 1, 4, and 5 singles consecutively to take a 3-2 lead after that.
Indiana tied the match at three a piece when freshman Sam Landau came back from being down 4-1 in the third set to win at No. 3 singles, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3).
Then, senior Luka Vukovic closed the deal with a win at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3.
Indiana will be back in action tomorrow against No. 1 seed Ohio State for the first quarterfinal match of the day. The match will start at 9 a.m. at the IU Tennis Center.
