Hoosiers Fall In MPSF Opener To Cal

SAN JOSE, Calif. – 5-seeded Indiana fell, 9-7, to 4-seed Cal in the MPSF Tournament opener to Cal on Friday afternoon at SRAC on the campus of San Jose State University.

KEY MOMENTS

Indiana scored first quarter goals by sophomore Skylar Kidd and sophomore Portia Sasser to keep the game knotted at 2-2. But the Bears would answer three goals in the second to take a 5-2 advantage at the break.
Cal added one more to its total in the third, on a 6-on-5 opportunity with 2:58 to play. Indiana finally got back on the board with 1:45 remaining as senior Zoe Crouch netted one on a penalty play. The Hoosiers would trail 6-3 going to the final eight minutes.
In a comeback attempt, IU scored three-straight goals to make it just a one-goal deficit with 3:45 to play. The offense would credit sophomore Sophia Sollie, senior Robyn Greenslade and Kidd with goals in the fourth.
The Bears went back-to-back to push its lead back to two goals which it kept as sophomore Grac Hathaway chipped one in with 19 seconds remaining.

NOTES

Six different players scored goals in the effort, led by two goals from Kidd.
Graduate student goalie Mary Askew recorded 15 in the cage and a team-high two steals.
Senior Lanna Debow led the way with two assists while Crouch and Hathaway each added one.

The Hoosiers will get a bye on Saturday and play in the fifth-place game on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
