Indiana Sweeps Fifth Conference Opponent in Victory Over Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Indiana softball (37-15, 15-5 B1G) swept their fifth conference opponent with a, 6-5, victory over the Michigan Wolverines (24-21, 10-10 B1G) at Carol Hutchins Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
INDIANA 6, MICHIGAN 5
KEY MOMENTS
• Redshirt-junior Cora Bassett hits a leadoff homer to start game three against the Wolverines.
• Freshman Taryn Kern hit a double to right field before an RBI double from sophomore Sarah Stone would send her home, 2-0.
• Michigan cut the lead to one as they scored on a fielder's choice.
• In the top of the second, junior Brooke Benson hit a two-run home run over the center field wall, 4-1.
• Sophomore Taylor Minnick hit the Hoosiers second leadoff homer in the third inning.
• The Wolverines scored two in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead, 5-3.
• Indiana' defense continued to be on lock as Benson and Kern held it down in the infield.
• Kern deked out the runner at first before making an incredible throw to Bassett at third.
• IU scored another run on an RBI single after sophomore Kinsey Mitchell sent a slow roller up the middle to start the sixth, 6-3.
• Benson came up with a big defensive play in the sixth as the UM batter lined into a double play.
• Michigan loaded the bases with three hits, but they would score two on a single down the third base line, but the Indiana defense continued to hold strong to sweep the series.

• Indiana earned their fifth conference sweep against the Wolverines. IU has swept Maryland, Purdue, Ohio State and Rutgers.
