BIG TEN WEEKEND RECAP
The outdoor season has taken full force after a weekend that included big meets such as the Texas Relays, Pepsi Florida Relays and Stanford Invitational.
Â
IU has run at both the Raleigh Relays and Pepsi Florida Relays in the early portion of the season, producing a number of quality times and marks across all event disciplines.
Â
Five NCAA leaders in their respective events hail from the Big Ten including Indiana's Camden Marshall who holds the national lead across 1500 meters.
Â
It will be a busy month-and-a-half before the collegiate postseason begins. IU will play host to the Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the first time since 2018.
Â

BIG TEN EVENTS TO WATCH
Men's Pole Vault
This event is already off to a fantastic start this season with four athletes clearing bars of 5.28m/17-3.75 or higher through the first month. Michigan State's Trevor Stephenson, Minnesota's Jak Urlacher, Ohio State's Luke Bendick and Indiana's Nathan Stone lead the charge with a handful of vaulters close behind.
Â
Stone is the defending outdoor conference champion in the event and already holds the indoor title this year after beating Stephenson in a close battle at the end of February.
Â
Men's Hammer Throw
An exciting addition to the competition schedule in the outdoor season, the hammer throw has provided some outstanding moments already. Five Big Ten athletes have thrown over 65 meters this year including Indiana's Sean Mockler who opened up at 66.15m/217-0 at the Pepsi Florida Relays.
Â
Last year's conference meet took a throw of 71 meters to win with Mockler finishing third as a freshman. Four athletes rank top-25 nationally in the event led by Minnesota's Kostas Zaltos who is second in the nation with a throw of 73.36m/240-8.
Â
Women's 1500 Meters
The middle-distance crop of women has been very strong this season and has produced some close competition in the early weeks. Seven women have run under 4:21 in their opening races including IU's Maddie Dalton and Jenna Barker.
Â
Illinois' Olivia Howell won the national championship indoors in the mile and will be a big factor outdoors. Dalton ranks fourth in the conference after her first race in the 1500 meters this season.
