BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – One game does not make a series and the Indiana baseball program will look to bounce back from a series-opening 7-1 loss to Iowa on Friday (April 7) at Bar Kaufman Field. The loss snapped a 16-game home winning streak that dated back to the 2022 season and was the second longest in program history.
Iowa (22-6, 2-2 B1G) opened the game with a single run in the first inning and added two in the fourth and one in the fifth and one in the seventh to build a 5-0 lead. Indiana (20-10, 5-2 B1G) got a single run in the bottom of the seventh inning, before the Hawkeyes capped the scoring with two runs in the ninth.
Sophomore Brock Tibbitts and senior Hunter Jessee were each on base twice in the game, as Tibbitts extended his reached base streak to 13 games with a pair of walks. Jessee singled, walked and drove in two RBIs in the contest. Freshman Devin Taylor had one of the four IU hits to move his hitting streak to five games and reached base streak to 19 straight. Senior Phillip Glasser moved his reached base streak to 30 games with a walk in the contest.
The loss went to senior Ben Seiler (0-2) after three runs – two earned – allowed over 3 1/3 innings of work. He gave up three hits, walked one and struck out three.
Iowa used just two pitchers in the game as starter Brody Brecht (3-1) fired seven innings of two hit, one run work to earn the victory. He struck out seven and walked four. Jacob Henderson tossed the final two innings scoreless with all six outs via strikeout. Kyle Huckstrof and Raider Tello each drove in two RBIs in the game and Brennen Dorighi had two hits, including a home run, and scored three times.
