Davis Tabbed Second Team
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana junior Drew Salyers was named All-Big Ten First Team, while fifth-year senior Mitch Davis was voted to the All-Big Ten Second Team, the league announced on Wednesday morning.
Salyers is the first Hoosier men's golfer to earn First Team recognition since Clay Merchent in 2021.
Salyers averaged a career-low 71.59 strokes per round to lead Indiana while playing in all 32 rounds throughout the season. He was a mainstay at the top of the leaderboards and earned nine-straight top-20 finishes to open the season. Five times he finished inside the top-10 with victories at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 16-17) and the Williams Cup (Oct. 21-23). His weekend at Quail Valley proved to be historic as he matched the 36-hole school record (130) and became the second Hoosier ever to record a sub-200 (199) scorecard during a 54-hole tournament. He was named the Big Ten Men's Golder of the Week on Oct. 19.
Davis played in all 32 rounds for the Hoosiers across 11 tournaments. He posted a season stroke average of 72.44, the lowest figure of his career. He finished inside the top-20 of seven tournaments, including the top-10 outings. Davis produced 12 rounds at or under par this season, the second-highest amount of any Hoosier.
Fifth-year senior Thomas Hursey was named Indiana's recipient of the 2023 Big Ten Sportsmanship Honoree. The Ferris State transfer has played in 23 rounds with a stroke average of 74.00 in his debut season with the Cream and Crimson. He has finished inside the top-15 in each of his last three events, including a second-place effort at the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational.
