Kern Sets Single Season RBI Record in 9-5 Victory Over MSU

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana freshman Taryn Kern set the program record for most RBI in a single season with her RBI double in the bottom of the fourth in the Hoosiers (39-15, 17-5 B1G) 9-5 win over Michigan State (14-31, 4-18 B1G) at Andy Mohr Field on Saturday afternoon.

KEY MOMENTS
• Redshirt-junior Cora Bassett started things off for the Hoosiers with a leadoff double to left center before Kern earned an RBI single in the infield to send her home.
• Sophomore Taylor Minnick hit a two-run homer deep into center field to put the Hoosiers up, 3-0, to end the first.
• MSU tied it up with a three-run homer to left field in the top of the second.
• The Spartans added two more runs in the top of the third and fifth innings to take a 5-3 lead.
• The Hoosiers added four runs in the bottom of the fifth behind a two RBI double to left field from Bassett to tie the ball game.
• Kern earned her record-breaking RBI on a double to right center to send Bassett in for another run, 6-5.
