ROSEMONT, Ill. - Junior setter Camryn Haworth was among a list of 15 student-athletes named to the 2023 Preseason All-Big Ten Volleyball Team, as announced by the conference office on Friday afternoon.
Haworth, who earned First Team All-Big Ten honors in 2022, is the first IU athlete selected to the conferences' preseason All-Big Ten team since Ashley Benson in 2010. She is one of three setters on the team alongside Penn State's Mac Podraza and Minnesota's Melani Shaffmaster.
Preseason favorites Wisconsin led the way with four selections while Minnesota followed closely behind with three. Podraza, Nebraska libero Lexi Rodriguez and Purdue outside hitter Eva Hudson were all unanimous selections by the Big Ten coaches.
Haworth returns to Bloomington coming off a season that saw her record 1,111 assists, 290 digs, 127 kills and 56 blocks. She led the Big Ten with 49 service aces and had a team high 10 double-doubles. She had 40+ assists on 10 occasions and had 15+ digs in five different matches.
In a win over Northwestern, she recorded IU's first triple-double since 2001 with 37 assists, 11 digs and 10 kills. She followed that up with 45 assists and 16 digs at Ohio State enroute to earning Big Ten Setter of the Week and AVCA National Player of the Week honors in late November.
During the offseason, she and senior outside hitter Morgan Geddes were both named to the 2023 U.S. Collegiate National Team. They both spent a week in Anaheim in early June training in a national team setting alongside some of the best collegiate talent in the nation.
In two years as a Hoosier, Haworth has made an immediate impact on the program. She ranks 11th all-time in assists (1,615) and 8th in the rally era for aces (91). She will likely become the 11th player in program history to reach 2,000 assists and the 19th player to reach 100 aces this season.
The Hoosiers will surround Haworth this season with the top five returning hitters from a season ago including Geddes (266 kills in 2022), junior outside hitter Mady Saris (427 kills in 2022) and senior middle blocker Savannah Kjolhede (215 kills in 2022).
IU begins the 2023 season on Friday, August 25th in Wilkinson Hall against New Hampshire.
