BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana baseball team is officially back on campus to begin classes for the 2023-24 school year. Following an outstanding season with the Hoosiers, most athletes went off to their respective summer leagues to continue playing in June and July.
Devin Taylor was named Rookie of the Year in the New England League while Tyler Cerny was named to the Appalachian All-League team. Carter Mathison and Brock Tibbitts were both named All-Stars in the prestigious Cape Cod League.

Devin Taylor | NECBL | Keene Swampbats
.314 BA, 8 HR's, 30 RBI's, 38 Hits
After being named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Taylor continued to put his name on the map by earning Rookie of the Year honors in the New England League.
The Cincinnati, Ohio native led the team in hits (38), home runs (8) and RBI (30) across 33 games and 121 at-bats. Taylor was among the All-Stars this summer in the league and also made the Championship Round of the home run derby.
Tyler Cerny | Appalachian League | Greeneville Flyboys
.336 BA, 5 HR's. 23 RBI's
Another of IU's standout freshmen in 2023, Cerny hit the cover off the ball in the Appalachian League enroute to earning all-league honors as a middle infielder.
Cerny finished top-15 in the league in home runs (5), RBI (23) and batting average (.336) and was named an All-Star this summer.
Brock Tibbitts | Cape Cod League | Brewster Whitecaps
.289 BA, 1 HR, 12 RBI's, 15 BB, 35 Hits, 16 Runs
An All-Star in the Cape Cod League, Tibbitts made his presence known among the nation's best returning players with a standout summer.
He hit .289 in the regular season with 35 hits and 12 RBI. He played the second-most games on the team (37) and had the second-most at-bats (121).
Carter Mathison | Cape Cod League | Cotuit Kettleers
.260 BA, 25 Hits, 10 RBI's, 23 BB, 20 Runs
The final of IU's 2023 Summer All-Stars, Mathison appeared in 31 games for Cotuit while also collecting a hit in the All-Star Game.
An important all-around player, the Fort Wayne native hit .260 on the summer while recording 25 hits, 20 runs and 23 walks.
Joey Brenczewski | Appalachian League | Bluefield Ridgerunners
.312 BA, 34 Hits, 1 HR, 16 RBI's
After redshirting in Bloomington in 2023, Brenczewski played in 31 games during the summer, batting .312 with one home run and 16 RBI's.
He also recorded 12 walks and 34 hits over the course of the summer.
Aydan Decker-Petty | Appalachian League | Johnson City Dough Boys
3-0, 3.75 ERA, 31 K's
Decker-Petty appeared in the most games for Johnson City this year, starting in four and pitching in nine.
He struck out 31 batters across 36 innings while maintaining a 3.75 ERA.
Morgan Colopy | Prospect League | Terre Haute Rex
.336 BA, 5 HR's, 22 RBI's
Colopy slashed .336/.443/.564 across 31 games and 110 plate appearances while hitting five home runs and 22 RBI's.
Brooks Ey | NECBL | Ocean State Waves
3.04 ERA, 23.2 IP, 21 K's
Very consistent in relief for Ocean State, Ey struck out 21 batters in 23.2 innings pitched with a 3.04 ERA.
Cooper Katskee | Appalachian League | Bluefield Ridgerunners
5 IP, 5.40 ERA
Pitched in four games for Bluefield.
Connor Foley | Appalachian League | Johnson City Doughboys
10.2 IP, 16 K's
Pitched in just three games but was dominant for Johnson City, finishing the summer with a 0.84 ERA and 16 strikeouts over 10.2 innings pitched.
Josh Pyne | Cape Cod League | Cotuit Kettleers
13 GP
Played in just 13 games in the Cape Cod League before ending his summer. Recorded five hits, one home run, five RBI's and four walks.
Ethan Phillips | Appalachian League | Greeneville Flyboys
4.93 ERA, 36.2 IP
Pitched the most of any IU player this summer with 43 strikeouts in 36.2 innings.
Ty Bothwell | CPL | Morehead City Marlins
4-1, 2.76 ERA
Turned in one of the most productive summers for any IU player with 29.1 innings pitched and 39 strikeouts with a 2.76 ERA. Best performance of the season came on July 27th when he fanned 11 batters across seven innings of work while allowing just two hits.
