On what he's seen from Anthony Jones since trasnferrring in…
KT: He's physical and he's versatile. At his high school in Las Vegas, he played tight end and then he was also a defensive guy. We were able to see his athleticism in space catching the ball, he's a natural athlete. Things we watched while scouting from Oregon was just the physicality factor which is something that we have to have at that bull spot. He's going to play a bunch of different spots, as well. He's just more physically gifted and the mindset, he has an attack mindset that you want.
On what Nicolas Radicic has shown and how the kicking competition stands…
KT: He's got a chip on his shoulder. The thing I'll give Nico a lot of credit for is he's an extremely confident, young man. Very pleased with him so far. He is a freshman, you try to build it and bring him along slowly and adapt him into the environment because it's going to be different. He comes from a big-time high school that plays some really good football down in Texas. He's kicked in the All-American game so he's been in pressure situations which you love. We're going to put him in pressure situations, we put him in one today and he answered the call, which is what you expect. Chris (Freeman) has done a better much job recently in the past week and a half, Alex (Quintero) has been serviceable, as well. So, I feel really good about where we're at right now moving forward with those three guys and it's exciting to see.
On how to maximize Jaylin Lucas in the return game with opponents focusing on him…
KT: Even last year we tried to manufacture ways toward the end of the season to get him the ball because teams are going to kick away. We have to expect teams to do different things and try to manipulate him not touching the ball. We have to be creative on our side and make sure we use him at the right times in the right moments. There's a variety of things schematically that we're working on to make sure that he's in a position to field the football, whether it be a kick return or punt return and obviously, offensively. He's a dangerous weapon, there's a reason he was a First Team All-American last year, we've got to find ways to get him the ball and get him returns. When those opportunities come the other ten guys on the field have to do their job because he is so explosive. You can't relax when he's out there on the field. You've got to get the other ten guys blocking for him and using their techniques and making sure they're giving him time to field the kicks and the punts. That's really what it comes down to because we know what he can do with the ball in his hands. It's going to come down to the other ten guys that are going to be able to out-execute our opponent.
Anthony Jones | OLB | R-Fr.
On learning when to play freely…
AJ: I think that's what training camp is for. Learning when these certain plays with this type of formation, maybe I can't come under, or things like that. Just learning the certain plays where I can be a little more flexible than others and sometimes, I've got to stick more to the defense. But staying between those lines when I need to and just playing football at the same time.
On what made Indiana the right choice…
AJ: Just talking to the coaching staff and seeing their best interests in me as an individual off the field, not just on the field. Systematically, I think it allows me to play free, show a lot of different skill sets of mine. Being able to drop back in coverage, and I'm also pass rushing, so I get the best of both worlds.
Louis Moore | DB | Sr.
On Adjusting to playing DB…
LM: It didn't take that long. I feel like I'm a ball player. I played DB in high school too. Making that transition, making plays is easy.
On working with Coach Guerrieri…
LM: The thing I like most about coach Guerrieri is he coaches really hard. I love that, honestly. I don't want a coach to take it easy on me. He corrects everything. He just coaches hard, and that's what you want. You don't want players getting by because at the end of the day, we're on the field together. Knowing we're getting coached right, we know our responsibilities, and it's going to make us better.
Josh Sanguinetti | DB | R-Sr.
On working with new players…
JS: Just trying to create a bond with everybody. When you go out there and play with them you know 'I've got your back, he's got my back'. Just doing stuff after practice together, whether it's hanging out or going and watching extra film, or going over extra plays on the film, or going over plays on the field after practice so everybody can be close on game day.
On being a leader for the younger players…
JS: Just telling them every day ––– we just go out there and work. If we play within our scheme and play our defense right, we'll stop anybody. It doesn't matter if it's Ohio State, Purdue, anybody. All we do is just play our defense, play within our system, and we'll beat anybody.
