IUWBB In Greece: Travel Blog - Day 5
8/6/2023 12:25:00 PM | Women's Basketball
Our last full day near Napfaktos took us two hours to Olympia and the archeological site of the ancient Olympic games Upon entering we saw the gymnasium where competitors would practice wrestling, javelin and discus among other things. We also got to see the remains of the monument dedicated to four time hippodrome champion Alexander the Great. Our tour guide, Marietta, then showed us where in 2024 the Olympic flame will be lit in April and starting its journey around the world to be lit for the 2024 games in Paris. We then proceeded into the ancient stadium, where foot races were held. Over 40,000 people were able to fit inside the stadium and the length of the square track was approximately 192 meters in distance. The Hoosiers took off on a foot race to see who the fastest competitor was. Who do you think won the race? Check out the video recap to find out!
The group heads back to Athens on Monday for its final stop of the trip, spending time at a beach resort south of the city. They will spend the day traveling on Monday before enjoying a boat cruise on Tuesday.
