BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – As the Indiana Football program kicked off the second week of fall camp, co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Anthony Tucker, tight ends coach Kevin Wright and select wide receivers and tight ends addressed the media inside Memorial Stadium on Monday (August 7).

Below is a partial transcript of the press conference, while video of the media sessions can be found on the right sidebar at IUHoosiers.com.

Anthony Tucker | Co-Offensive Coordinator/Wide Receivers
On what Dequece Carter brings to the team…
AT: Maturity. He's a graduate transfer, he's got a great, mature presence about him. Really positive guy. He's really fit in with our team fast. He's really smart … he has really picked up what we're doing and how we do things. He's perfect for what our culture is here. He's fit in our locker room really well.

On how Cam Camper has impressed Tucker…
AT: I think Cam has been great. I knew about Cam before I got here, just through recruiting. I got the opportunity to evaluate him before he chose to come here. Cam's been a great leader and great model in our room. He's made his way back and worked really, really hard. He's looked great, I am really pleased with him.

On Kamryn Perry's growth from spring to fall…
AT: Every day there's something that he is getting better at. Our defense challenges everyone, and especially if you're a young player, the last real football that you played was in high school. So, every single day has been great for Kam. From the beginning to now, where he was when I got here, to where he is now from what I'm seeing. He's just steadily coming along. He's a highly motivated guy, he's got a really good work ethic. He's always doing things on his own. He's texting me and asking questions about certain things because he's very inquisitive and wants to learn more. He loves being here and loves being part of this team. His development from when I got here to where he is now, is night and day. But every day is really important for those young guys.

Kevin Wright | Tight Ends
On how Aaron Steinfeldt has progressed this offseason…
KW: With Aaron, he had a really good spring. We challenged him to get in the best shape of his life, and it's really amazing to see at the end of the summer how he transformed his body. He's leaner, he runs better, he's moving better. He's always had really good ball skills. I just like the way that he's gone about his business and tried to take another step.

On Coach Wright's philosophy to coaching the tight end room…
KW: I always stress that we're going to develop the whole room. Maybe that's my high school background where you've got what you've got, and you have to develop everybody. I always try and make a point of emphasis that no matter if you're No. 1 on the depth chart, or No. 8 on the depth chart, that we're going to try and develop everybody. I think the buy-in has been really good. Going back to my first couple years, we played a lot of two tight end sets and so you've got every Saturday, counting special teams, five guys that are probably going to play. I think that type of mindset in developing the whole room and trying to get as much as you can out of the guys has helped us. There's always been a guy that has emerged by the time you get to the season as the guy that sets the standard in practice. I think that when those younger guys see the older guys that helps create a tradition and sets a standard that you want.

On James Bomba's development going into 2023…
KW: He didn't get to go through spring practice, he had some things cleaned up with his shoulder. He's all good now. The challenge to him is to be in the best shape that you can be. Just totally reset his body, similarly to Aaron. He's a physical guy, I think the thing that he has to do is be a great technician right now. He played a lot last year as the second tight end, as an end-line guy. He just needs to continue to be a great technician and catch the ball when he's thrown to. I think that's what he's done. James is a natural leader, he's one of those guys that leads the room not just by how he carries himself, but also by his words and I think that means a lot. We really need him to continue to grow and be that guy in the room.

Cam Camper | Sr. | WR
On his goals for this season... CC: I just want to win the day, honestly. [Win the day] In practice, Monday through Thursday, so when game day comes around I am ready, then we start back over the next week.

On the wide receivers room...
CC: Everybody brings their own juice to the [wide receivers room]. You have Donaven [McCulley], he can take the top off [the defense] and is a big dude. [Andison] Coby is explosive and makes plays. KP [Kamryn Perry] is explosive. Everybody has their own thing they can do well and that contributes to the room and makes us better ... Starter or not, Coach [Anthony] Tucker says there shouldn't be a drop off regardless of if you come on the field first or second it should be the same standard all the time.

Dequece Carter | Sr.+ | WR
On fitting into the culture in the locker room...
DC: We joke around all the time and when it is time to get serious, we really get focused. [As a wide receivers unit] we have been serious about our extra work. That nitty gritty culture [is what this program is about]. Coach [Tom] Allen always says dirty hard work in the dark. That is something that we live by and I really take that serious.

On picking up the offense...
DC: I have been here since the summer and having one-on-one meetings with Coach [Anthony] Tucker whenever he was here. All of June, I would stay up late and [Tucker] would send me install. I was just focused on getting it right. I think it has been a smooth transition.

Aaron Steinfeldt | R-So. | TE
On areas he has focused on in the offseason...
AS: A little bit of everything. During spring ball I really focused on blocking. Facing guys like Andre Carter and Myles Jackson really helped and propelled me into fall camp. Going from the summer and straight into fall camp is really hard, but I think today was probably my best day blocking. Pass game has always been my strong suit and I think I have improved in that, as well. I have gone up to Indianapolis most weekends to work with a trainer and that has helped me a lot in defining routes, making sure my cuts are clean and everything is good. I have worked with my receivers [at Indiana] as well to help me out and make me a better overall tight end.

On what he learned during his first season on the field in 2022...
AS: The biggest thing was the speed and the physicality of the game. The guys on the defensive side of the ball are as big or bigger that you are - the defensive ends. A lot of times the nickels and linebackers are faster than you, so just learning the finesse. So another thing I worked on over the summer was getting stronger. I did a lot of yoga in my free time, as well, to get a lot more flexible and be able to bend and use my length in certain ways.
