
Hoosiers, Badgers Share Points in Big Ten Opener

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana men's soccer (2-2-2, 0-0-1 B1G) posted its third shutout in six matches this season but couldn't break through in a scoreless draw with Wisconsin (3-2-2, 0-0-1 B1G) Friday (Sept. 15) on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Both teams will take a point from their Big Ten opener with seven matches remaining in conference play.
KEY MOMENTS
• 3' – Junior midfielder Patrick McDonald found space inside the box to fire a shot on goal, but the Badger keeper was positioned well to save.
• 45' – The defenses had their way for most of the game and especially in the first 45 minutes. The team combined for six shots, with IU having a majority 4-2.
• 85' – Senior midfielder Quinten Helmer instinctively headed a ball in the air around the top of the 18 and forced the keeper to make a leaping save. The attempt gave IU a corner, which was whipped toward senior defender Jansen Miller, but the keeper jumped in front of the 6-foot-2 Miller.
NOTABLES
• Indiana earned its third clean sheet in four matches at home. IU has conceded three goals all season, a goals against average of 0.50, while allowing one goal at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
• IU is undefeated in 13 consecutive matches against Wisconsin.

• Senior Maouloune Goumballe made his 90th appearance in cream and crimson.

Indiana will host a derby match with in-state opponent Butler on Tuesday (Sept. 19). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. The Hoosiers return to Big Ten play in a week when they visit Michigan State next Friday (Sept. 22).
