
Hoosiers Best Hurricanes in Five-Set Thriller

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Volleyball fans were treated to one of the most entertaining games ever on Friday night in the James L. Knight Sports Complex on the campus of the University of Miami.
A five-set battle between the Indiana Volleyball team (8-3, 0-0) and the host Hurricanes went the favor of the visitors with sophomore opposite hitter Avry Tatum (.361, 17-4-36) leading the way in a 3-2 win (25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-12).
IU extends its winning streak to five games and picks up its first true road win over a non-conference power five opponent since besting #15 Kentucky in Lexington in 2019.
The Hoosiers had five players with double-figure kills including Tatum (17) and graduate student middle blocker Kaley Rammelsberg (.387, 15-3-31). Junior setter Camryn Haworth played a prolific game, matching her career high with 51 assists.
12 different Hoosiers played in the match including senior defensive specialist Grae Gosnell who came off bench and set up Haworth for the match-winning assist and Tatum for the match-winning kill.
IU continues its stay in Miami tomorrow, shifting over to Florida International for Saturday's contests, with matches against Jacksonville and the host Panthers.

• A brilliant all-around match from IU's floor general, the junior matched her career high with 51 assists while compiling nine digs, four aces and two kills.
• Haworth finished with nine aces on the day across two matches, giving her seven career matches with four-plus aces. She dished out 50+ assists for the third time in her career.
• She now has 118 service aces in her career, moving into 8th all-time and just 13 off of the program's rally-era record of 130.
• The Fishers, Ind. has 1,970 assists in her career, putting her just 30 away from becoming the 11th Hoosier to break the 2,000-assist barrier.
#13 Tatum, Avry
• Perhaps the best game of her young career, the sophomore stepped up to a physical Miami team and beat them for a team-high 17 kills.
• She added an additional four digs, four blocks and two service aces, providing crucial points in key moments for the Hoosiers.
#18 Rammelsberg, Kaley
• Proving to be one of the best players in the conference, Rammelsberg was once again fantastic for IU on Friday night.
• She finished with 15 kills, one shy of her career high, while hitting .387 on the night and providing six big blocks.
• Rammelsberg now has over 1,000 career attempts as a Hoosier, the threshold for qualifying for the program's all-time top-10 list in hitting percentage. She holds a .318 clip offensively in three years at IU, good enough for No. 2 in program history.
#32 Gary, Ramsey
• Gary dug a career best 17 balls and provided a career high four aces while flying around the court for the Hoosiers.

• The Hoosiers aced Miami five times in the first set and went with a balanced offensive attack to steal the opening frame.
• IU ended the set on a 5-1 run with an ace from Gary and kill from Kjolhede putting the final nail in the coffin on a first-set victory.
Set 2: Miami 25, Indiana 23
• Miami hitting an outstanding .484 (18-3-31) in the second set but three service aces from the Hoosiers kept the visitors in it until the final point.
• The Hurricanes' Angela Grieve had eight kills on 11 swings while setter Savannah Vach assisted on 15 balls but Rammelsberg had six kills of her own to keep IU in it.
• The Hoosiers went on a 7-3 run to tie it at 20-all with an outstanding kill from Haworth tying things up down the stretch.

• The Hoosiers came right back, dominating set three to the tune of a 25-18 victory. Tatum was outstanding with four kills on seven errorless swings while also blocking three shots.
• IU went up 21-14 with a pair of Miami attacking errors and didn't look back, sharing the final eight points to earn the set victory.
Set 4: Miami 25, Indiana 23
• With their backs against the wall, the Hurricanes pulled out a two-point in set four after scoring the final three points in the frame.
• IU fought off a six-point deficit down 15-21, riding the service of Haworth and Kjolhede to take the lead at 23-22 after a Tatum kill.
• Miami would respond with three crucial points down the stretch, including an outstanding ace from freshman Grace Lopez, to send the match to a fifth set.

• IU hit .478 (12-1-23) in the final frame with Tatum leading the way on four kills and junior outside hitter Mady Saris on three.
• Saris blew the set open at 8-4 but Miami would respond and tie it at 10-all. Out of a timeout, Kjolhede went to the slide and delivered a crucial kill. IU would never look back and would win in five sets on Tatum's 17th kill of the evening.
