Black Scores Game Winner; Hoosiers Win Fifth Straight Match Over Illinois, 2-1

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Indiana women's soccer (8-0-2, 2-0 B1G) defeated Illinois (4-3-2, 0-0-2 B1G), 2-1, for their fifth straight win after senior midfielder Sofia Black scored the game winner in the 39th minute at Demirjian Park on Thursday evening.
KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana took the lead in the 19th minute after sophomore midfielder Natasha Kim steals possession with a solid tackle in the midfield as she dribbles down the field to find graduate forward Paige Webber inside the box. Webber found Bennett at the top left of the goalie box where she buried it into the back of the net.
• Illinois found the equalizer in the 34th minute after what looked to be a cross but found its way in the far-left corner of the net.
• Black put the Hoosiers back in the lead right before the half as she intercepted a pass from sophomore forward Marisa Grzesiak. Black fired one right outside the six-yard box as the Illinois Keeper attempted the diving save, but the ball was still loose as Black dribbled the ball around the fallen goalie. before angling her strike
• The remaining 45 minutes was a defensive battle as the Illini looked for the equalizer, but the Hoosiers backline would hold strong.
