BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana junior midfielder Hope Paredes and Jamie Gerstenberg earn Big Ten Weekly Awards, the league announced on Tuesday.
Paredes, a transfer from San Diego State, earns Defensive Player of the Week and her first conference accolade after she scored the game winner in the second minute to defeat No. 18 Northwestern, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon.
The junior midfielder holds a .636 shots on goal percentage and has four points on the season. She has made seven starts this season, earning back-to-back starts against Illinois and Northwestern with 556 minutes played on the pitch.
The Irvine, Calif., native has four points on the season with one game winning goal.
Gerstenberg was named B1G Goalkeeper of the Week after she combined for two victories including her sixth shutout against No. 18 Northwestern. She totaled nine saves against Illinois and Northwestern for 115 career saves.
The Birkenwerder, Germany, native also posted her sixth shutout this season against the ranked opponent and holds a .827 save percentage. She has faced only six goals this season with a .58 goals against average.
She currently ranks third in the conference in goals against (.571) and shutouts per game (.545) and fifth in saves (27).
Paredes and Gerstenberg helped extend the Hoosiers win streak to six and the longest undefeated streak since 2007 when IU went undefeated in 13 straight games. IU also defeated their first ranked opponent since 2017 against the Wildcats.
