• Indiana University continues its 124th season of competition in men's basketball against archrival Purdue, the second-ranked team in the country, at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on Peacock.
• The Boilermakers (15-2, 4-2) are led by the reigning National Player of Year, Zach Edey. The 7-foot 4-inch center averages a team-high 22.3 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game, including a 30-point, 20-rebound outing against Penn State (Jan. 13).
• Sophomore guard Braden Smith averages 12.4 points and 6.9 assists per game on 48.2% (27-of-56) shooting from the 3-point line.
• As a team, Purdue shoots 39.8% (150-of-377) from behind the 3-point line, the highest clip in the Big Ten. The 150 makes (8.8 per game) rank third in the conference.

Series History
• For the 218th time in program history, Indiana will take on archrival Purdue. The Boilermakers hold a 125-92 advantage in the series. No team has appeared on IU's schedule more often than Purdue. Head coach Mike Woodson holds a record of 3-1 against the Boilers. All four games in the series have been decided by eight points or fewer.
• Indiana swept the season series in 2022-23 with a 79-74 result in Bloomington on Feb. 4, 2023, behind 25 points, seven rebounds, and five blocks from All-American forward Trayce Jackson-Davis. In the return game in West Lafayette, first-round draft pick Jalen Hood-Schifino led IU to a 79-71 victory on Feb. 25, 2023. The current Los Angeles Lakers guard posted 35 points, the second-most by an IU freshman in program history, to go along with seven rebounds and two assists.

• Rob Phinisee scored a team-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting off the bench, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 17 seconds on the clock to defeat No. 4 Purdue on Jan. 20, 2022.
• IU stormed the court after beating No. 1 Purdue on Feb. 4, 2023, on the strength of 25 points, seven rebounds, and five blocks from Trayce Jackson-Davis.
Mack Attack
• Freshman forward Mackenzie Mgbako has made a team-high 22 3-pointers this season, including 14 over his past six games. During the six-game stretch he is shooting 14-of-29 (48.3%) from behind the arc and averaging 11.5 points per game, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.
• Mgbako scored a career-best 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor against Minnesota (Jan. 12) to go along with four rebounds and two assists.
• The consensus top-10 recruit is averaging 10,2 points and 3.9 rebounds per contest and has reached double figures in the scoring column in 12 of the last 14 games.
Big Man Transformation
• Sophomore center Kel'el Ware, a transfer from Oregon, has upped his scoring (from 6.6 points to 14.8), rebounds (4.1 to 9.6), assists (0.5 to 1.8), and field goal percentage (45.7% to 55.3%) in his second season. He leads the Hoosiers in rebounds and blocks in 31 minutes per game.
• Ware has scored at least 10 points in 14 games this year after producing just eight such games as a rookie. The 7-footer has ripped down at least 10 boards seven times this season, including a career-high 17 at Rutgers (Jan. 9). Since the turn of the new year, Ware is averaging 11.8 rebounds per game in conference play.
• Ware tallied a career-high 28 points on 12-of-13 shooting from the floor in an 89-76 win over Harvard (Nov. 26) in Indianapolis. The 92.3% shooting split marked the highest by a Hoosier with at least 10 made field goals this century.
Paint Production
• Indiana averages 38.2 points per game in the paint and shoots 53.3% (369-of-692) from inside the arc. The Hoosiers hold opponents to 27.2 points per night in the key.
• IU gets to the charity stripe 23.8 times per game, the 26th most among all Division I programs and the third-highest figure in the Big Ten.
• Indiana scored a season-best 56 points in the paint against Wright State (Nov. 16). The Hoosiers also tallied 50 paint points against Harvard (Nov. 26) and 52 against Kennesaw State (Dec. 29).
Mgbako Leads IU over Minnesota
• Freshman forward Mackenzie Mgbako scored a game-high 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor in a 74-62 win over Minnesota on Jan. 12. He added four rebounds and two assists.
• Sophomore center Kel'el Ware charted his seventh double-double of the season with 17 points and 14 rebounds. The Oregon transfer also swatted two shots. Sophomore forward Malik Reneau finished with 16 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
Indiana Falters against Rutgers on the Road
• The Indiana starting frontcourt of freshman forward Mackenzie Mgbako, sophomore forward Malik Reneau, and sophomore center Kel'el Ware combined to score 39 points on 15-of-31 shooting from the floor. The trio added 28 rebounds, nine assists, and three blocks in a 66-57 loss at Rutgers on Jan. 9.
• IU held Rutgers to 21-of-65 (32.3%) shooting from the floor and 5-of-22 (22.7%) from the 3-point line while forcing 15 turnovers.
