Opening Tip
• Indiana University jumps back into Big Ten play in its 124th season of competition in men's basketball on the road against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Tip is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET on Jan. 3 on BTN.
• Nebraska (10-2, 1-1) has three players averaging north of 13.0 points per game in junior guard Brice Williams (13.7), junior forward Juwan Gary (13.3), and junior forward Rienk Mast (13.0). Senior guard Keisei Tominaga scores 12.7 points per game. Mast leads the team with 9.9 rebounds a night but has not played since Dec. 17 against Kansas State.
• Nebraska is led by fifth-year head coach Fred Hoiberg, who is one of three coaches in the Big Ten to have played in the NBA. He joins Indiana head coach Mike Woodson and Michigan's Juwan Howard.

Sophomore Jump for Reneau
• Sophomore forward Malik Reneau has posted double digits in the scoring column in 12 games this season, including nine efforts of at least 14 points. He notched a career-high 34 points against Kennesaw State (Dec. 29).
• Over the final two non-conference games, Reneau averaged 29.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists on 23-of-33 (69.7%) shooting from the floor, 5-of-7 (71.4%) from the 3-point line, and 8-of-12 (66.7%) from the charity stripe.
• Reneau is averaging a team-best 16.2 points per game to go along with 5.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 0.9 blocks in 28 minutes per game.
Mack Attack
• Freshman forward Mackenzie Mgbako has made a team-high 14 3-pointers this season, including 10 over his past five games. During the five-game stretch he is shooting 10-of-27 (37.0%) from behind the arc.
• The consensus top-10 recruit is averaging 10.0 points and 4.3 rebounds per contest and has reached double figures in the scoring column in 10-consecutive games.
Sons of Coaches
• Senior guard Trey Galloway scored a career-high 28 points against No. 2/2 Kansas (Dec. 16). He converted 12-of-17 shots. Galloway has scored at least 15 points in five career games. IU holds a record of 4-1 in those contests.
• He has dished out 16 total assists in his last two outings against North Alabama (Dec. 21) and Kennesaw State (Dec. 29) to go against just four turnovers.
• Galloway, who won the 2018 Indiana 3A state title for Culver Academies coached by his father, Mark, turned in his best collegiate season in 2022-23 with career highs in games played (32), games started (25), minutes per game (27.6), points per game (6.7), rebounds per game (3.0), assists per game (2.1), and 3-point field goal percentage (46.2).
• Freshman guard Gabe Cupps, the 2022 Mr. Basketball in the state of Ohio led Centerville, coached by his father Brook, to the 2021 state title.
• Cupps has started the last seven games for the Hoosiers in the absence of sixth-year senior guard Xavier Johnson.
Offensive Onslaught Leads Hoosiers over Owls
• Six Hoosiers posted double figures in the scoring column in a 100-87 over Kennesaw State on Dec. 29. Sophomore forward Malik Reneau secured his first career double-double behind a career-high 34 points and 11 rebounds.
• Freshman forward Mackenzie Mgbako (14), senior guard Trey Galloway (14), sophomore forward Kaleb Banks (12), junior center Payton Sparks (10), and fifth-year forward Anthony Walker (10) all scored at least 10 points.
• IU shot 36-of-59 (61.0%) from the floor, the highest single-game percentage since shooting 61.8% (34-of-55) at Illinois on Jan. 19, 2023.
Long Ball Looms Large in Win Over Lions
• Sophomore forward Malik Reneau scored 25 points to go along with seven rebounds and two assists in Indiana's 83-66 victory over North Alabama on Dec. 21. Reneau canned all four of his 3-point attempts.
• As a team, IU knocked down a season-high 12 3-pointers on 24 attempts. Reneau (4), freshman forward Mackenzie Mgbako (2), and senior guard Trey Galloway (2) all hit multiple 3-point attempts.
