BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — For the second-straight cycle, two Indiana men's soccer student-athletes were among the Big Ten weekly award winners announced by the conference office on Tuesday, October 22.
Graduate forward Justin Weiss was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, and junior defender Quinton Elliot earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors. The pair combined for six G/A as Indiana went 2-0-0 in the matchweek, outscoring No. 18 Michigan and Michigan State 8-1.
Weiss is the attacker of the week for the second time in his career, last earning the distinction for Northwestern in 2023. The junior opened his Hoosier account with three goals on the week. He scored twice in the 5-0 win at Michigan to become the fifth unique Hoosier in five matches to record a brace. Weiss then opened the scoring in the 3-1 win over Michigan State.
The graduate transfer eclipsed the 20-career goals milestone, bringing his five-year total to 22 goals. Indiana is one of two programs in NCAA Division I men's soccer with three 20-career goal scorers on its roster with Weiss joining senior forwards Samuel Sarver (22) and Tommy Mihalic (22).
Playing outside back roles, Elliot contributed to IU's perfect week from end-to-end. Elliot scored one of IU's five goals at Michigan, dribbling from midfield before firing a laser from outside the box. The junior also provided assists from throw-ins in each match.
Indiana's clean sheet against Michigan was its second in a row after blanking Penn State the week prior. The Hoosiers had shut out opponents for 276 consecutive minutes – the equivalent of three matches – before allowing a penalty to MSU in the 42nd minute, its lone concession of the matchweek.
Elliot was also named Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week honorable mention on Tuesday. Indiana has produced the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week in consecutive cycles as senior defender Jansen Miller earned the nod on Oct. 15. Midfielder Charlie Heuer earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week laurels in the last cycle, as well.
