Carpenter Tabbed Semifinalist for Burlsworth Trophy

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Burlsworth Trophy selection committee announced its 10 semifinalists for the 2024 award that honors the most outstanding football player in America that began his career as a walk-on and redshirt-senior James Carpenter is among the elite group.
Carpenter has started all 10 games with 431 snaps played on the defensive interior. He owns 25 tackles on the season with 8.0 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks. The interior rusher ranks No. 2 on team in tackles for loss and sacks with at least 0.5 TFL in six of 10 games. All four of his sacks are solo and he is the No. 6-ranked pass rusher among defensive interior linemen in FBS (min. 400 snaps). While Indiana doesn't have season-long captains, Carpenter has served as game captain in all 10 games of 2024.
The selection committee will announce the top three Burlsworth Trophy finalists on November 19. The BurlsworthTrophy Award Show to honor the three finalists and to announce the 2024 winner will be held on December 9, at 7:00pm CST at Crystal Bridges Museum in Bentonville, Arkansas.

The trophy is named in honor of Brandon Burlsworth. Without one D1 scholarship offer, Brandon walked on to the Razorback team in 1994, worked his way to being a three-year starter and was eventually named an All-American in 1998. Burlsworth was selected as the 63rd overall pick by the Indianapolis Colts in the 1999 NFL draft but was tragically killed in a car accident 11 days later. The Burlsworth Foundation was created in his memory and supports the physical and spiritual needs of children, particularly those children who have limited opportunities.
