No. 16/18 Indiana vs. UNCG
Nov. 21, 2024
• The No. 16/18 Indiana Men's Basketball team (4-0) defeated UNC Greensboro (2-2) by a score of 69-58 on Thursday, Nov. 21, at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
• IU scored 17 of the first 20 points of the game, opening up a 17-3 lead before UNCG scored its first two-point field goal of the contest.
• The Hoosiers held the visitors to just 31.7% (20-63) shooting from the field. UNCG made just 28.1% (9-32) of its 3-point field goals.
• The Hoosiers went on a 12-2 run over a four-minute span in the second half, forcing UNCG into a timeout at the 11:39 mark. After being tied 40-all, IU took the lead right back and retained the lead for the remainder of the game. Freshman guard Bryson Tucker had seven points in the run, sparking some much-needed momentum for the home side.
• IU led for 38:49 of Thursday night's contest. UNCG had the score briefly level for just over a minute of the game but the Hoosiers pulled away late for the 11-point victory. The Spartans never led in the game.
• Tucker had a big night for the Hoosiers, supplying a career high 14 points in a career best 25 minutes off the bench. With Tucker on the floor, IU was +11 in the ballgame.
• Redshirt sophomore guard Myles Rice went for a game high 20 points on 8-14 shooting from the floor. He added five rebounds and six assists over 35 minutes.
• Rice is the first IU player with back-to-back 20-point games since Kel'el Ware in March of 2024 (28 – vs. Michigan State, 26 – at Minnesota). He is the first IU guard with back-to-back 20-point contests since Jalen Hood-Schifino in January of 2023 (21 – at Iowa, 33 – vs. Northwestern).
• The Columbia, S.C. native, provided the first 20-5-5 (points-rebounds-assists) game for the Indiana Basketball team since Trayce Jackson-Davis in the 2023 NCAA Tournament against Kent State (24-11-5).
• Sophomore forward Mackenzie Mgbako tallied nine points. He added three rebounds and a pair of assists on Thursday evening.
• Junior forward Malik Reneau finished a point shy of his first double-double of the season. He recorded nine points and 10 rebounds on the night.
• Sixth-year center Oumar Ballo also finished one point shy of a double-double in the win over UNCG. He had 11 rebounds and nine points. The Mali native finished 4-5 from the field. His four offensive rebounds were a season best.
• Fifth-year senior guard Trey Galloway dished out two assists and added three rebounds in 15 minutes of run.
• Sophomore guard Kanaan Carlyle recorded three points and one rebound in the win.
• Senior forward Luke Goode hit a clutch 3-pointer as part of a 12-2 second half run. He also had two rebounds in the win.
• Senior center Langdon Hatton appeared briefly with two points and a rebound in three minutes of action.
• Up Next: Indiana heads to the Bahamas over Thanksgiving Break for the Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis. The Hoosiers begin action vs. Louisville on Wednesday, Nov. 27, at noon on ESPN.
