McDonald, Grana Named Big Ten Swimmers of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – After Indiana men's and women's swimming and diving both emerged victorious from the Ohio State Invitational on the weekend, the Hoosiers also swept the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week awards as announced by the conference office on Wednesday (Nov. 27).
Junior Owen McDonald won the men's swimmer of the week award for the second time this season, while sophomore Miranda Grana earned her first on the women's side.
McDonald won all eight events he competed in at the midseason meet, earning three individual victories and helping IU capture first place in all five relays. The Hoosiers also captured NCAA A cuts in all five relays.
All three of McDonald's individual times at midseason rank No. 2 in the country. The junior posted an NCAA A cut and re-set his own program record in the 200-yard backstroke, going 1:38.07. He swept the backstroke events, winning the 100 back in 44.93, and touched first in the 200 IM (1:40.86).
Grana also won three individual events and placed second in the fourth. The sophomore captured the 100 back (51.18), 100 fly (51.10) and 200IM (1:55.88), was second in the 200 back (1:51.36) and helped Indiana win the 800 freestyle relay (7:00.28) and 400 medley relay (3:29.93). The Hoosier women captured NCAA A cuts in all five relays, and Grana contributed to four of those times.
