Indiana Breaks School Record at Royal Ka‘anapali

LAHAINA, MAUI, Hawaii – The Indiana men's golf team shattered the school record by shooting an 818 (268-275-275; -34) at the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational at the Royal Ka'anapali Course from Nov. 2-4. The Hoosiers finished fourth in the event, a spot ahead of No. 5 LSU (819; -33) and two spots better than No. 26 Georgia (820; -32).
The previous 54-hole record for the IU program was an 832 shot at the Renaissance Intercollegiate in 2009.

• Redshirt junior Clay Merchent tied for fourth overall with a 54-hole score of 199 (67-65-67; -14) to become the third player in Indiana men's golf history to shoot under 200. He joined All-Americans Jeff Overton (three times) and Drew Salyers on the exclusive list.
• The Noblesville, Ind., native converted a team-best 18 birdies and an eagle on No. 9 in the second round of play.
• Freshman Bradley Chill Jr. played a scorecard of 204 (66-69-69; -9) with 12 birdies and an eagle on No. 9 in the third round. The t-14th finish marked the best of his young career with the Cream and Crimson.
• Sophomore Cole Starnes posted a bogey-free first round and sank 15 birdie putts to tie for 21st at 205 (66-70-69; -8). Starnes has finished top 25 in three of the five fall events played.
• Sophomore Nick Piesen shot a 211 (69-71-71; -2), his lowest 54-hole score in his collegiate career, with 13 birdie conversions.
• Sophomore Alec Cesare played a 218 (76-72-70; +5) with seven birdies and an eagle on No. 6 in the opening round.
• Sophomore Neri Checcucci, playing as an individual, signed for a 222 (74-75-73; +9) and eight birdies.
