Indiana vs. Winthrop
Dec. 29, 2024
• The (RV/-) Indiana Men's Basketball team (10-3, 1-1 B1G) picked up a win over Winthrop, 77-68, on Sunday (Dec. 29) afternoon at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
• IU finished the non-conference portal of the schedule with a 9-2 record across 11 contests. In non-league games played in Bloomington, the Hoosiers were 8-0.
• The IU defense limited Winthrop to just 37.5% shooting from the floor in the contest. It's the sixth different time this season that IU's opponent has shot worse than 40.0% from the field. The Eagles were just 26.1% (6-23) from beyond the arc.
• The Hoosiers scored 54 points in the paint, even without the services of sixth-year senior center Oumar Ballo. They finished just short of a season high (56 vs. Eastern Illinois) for points inside the painted area.
• Behind a season high 11 boards from senior center Langdon Hatton, IU grabbed a season best 46 team rebounds on Sunday afternoon. It was the most in a single game by IU since picking up 47 in a win over Morehead State last year (Dec. 19, 2023).
• On top of his 11 rebounds, Hatton also scored a season high seven points and played a season best 25 minutes. Before Sunday's contest, he had grabbed only six rebounds on the entire season. He nearly doubled that output in a big reserve role against Winthrop.
• Junior forward Malik Reneau was limited to just 14 minutes by foul trouble but scored 14 points (5-for-7 shooting) and grabbed seven rebounds.
• He's scored in double figures in seven-consecutive games and in 11 of 13 contests on the season. It's the longest run of double-digit scoring efforts in his career since opening the 2023-24 season with 10-straight 10+ point games.
• Redshirt sophomore guard Myles Rice scored 12 of his game-high 18 points in the first half. He finished 7-for-13 from the floor and converted on all four free throw attempts.
• Rice was +10 on the floor and played a team high 32 minutes. He had three steals for the second time this season (4 – at Nebraska) and also grabbed four rebounds with three assists.
• Sophomore forward Mackenzie Mgbako provided eight points with three rebounds, four assists and two blocks. He was +9 in 29 minutes of action for the Hoosiers.
• Fifth-year senior guard Trey Galloway had an efficient day at the office with 11 points (5-for-8 shooting), five assists and three rebounds. On top of that, he recorded zero turnovers (5-0 assist-to-turnover ratio) in 31 minutes of action.
• Galloway reached double figures in scoring for the fifth time this season and the first time since a contest at Nebraska (Dec. 13). In his career, he's scored 10+ points on 36 different occasions.
• Freshman forward Bryson Tucker provided nine points in 18 minutes of action off the bench. He also grabbed four rebounds and dished out one assist.
• Senior forward Luke Goode made his first start of the season for the Hoosiers. He scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds in 28 minutes of run.
• Sophomore guard Kanaan Carlyle played 14 minutes in reserve. He had two rebounds and two assists.
• Fifth-year senior guard Anthony Leal played seven minutes for the Hoosiers. He scored the final basket of the game for IU.
• Up Next: The Hoosiers resume Big Ten play with a visit from Rutgers to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall next Thursday (Dec. 29) evening. Tip is set for 8:30 p.m. on Peacock.
