Indiana Takes Care of Army in Five Innings

CLEARWATER, Fla. ––– Indiana used a seven-run fourth inning to take the game's momentum and defeat Army, 11-3, in five innings in the team's third game at the NFCA Leadoff Classic on Saturday afternoon.
INDIANA 11, ARMY 5 (F/5)
KEY MOMENTS
• Army opened the game with two runs scored in the top of the first inning.
• Indiana provided an immediate response with three runs scored in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a single from Sarah Stone that scored one and a double to right center from Avery Parker, scoring two to take the lead, 3-2.
• Army tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the third on an RBI single to left center.
• The fourth inning provided ample opportunity for the Hoosiers … Tristian Thompson, Taylor Minnick, Sarah Stone and Ella Carter all hit RBIs along with an VanBrandt run to push the lead to 10-3.
• In the bottom of the fifth inning, Chloe Geijer secured the win on an RBI sacrifice fly to center field with Alex Cooper scoring.
NOTABLES
• Junior Heather Johnson picked up her second win of the season. Her first came in a 7-5 victory on opening night against No. 15 Oregon.
• Freshmen Ella Carter and Tristian Thompson each made their first appearance of their collegiate career and also recorded their first RBI. Carter had an RBI on a sacrifice fly when pinch hitting. Thompson started at DP and had two RBI on a double to right center.
• Junior Taylor Minnick is now up to four RBI on the season.
• Minnick, redshirt senior Cora Bassett, junior Bri Copeland and sophomore Avery Parker have notched at least one hit in each of the three games of the season.
• Freshman Alex Cooper had her first career hit, laying down a perfect bunt on the third base line.
