FRISCO, Texas – The Indiana Baseball team (6-3) faced a five-run deficit before coming to the plate on Friday night. IU could never dig out of the hole as Alabama put 12 runs on the board to win a top-20 contest on the opening day of the Frisco Classic.
It was the second defeat of the season to a top-20 team on a Friday night (No. 12 Duke). Both games saw the Hoosiers face a highly-touted junior arm in Jonathan Santucci (Duke) and Ben Hess (Alabama). Sophomore right-handed pitcher Brayden Risedorph (L, 0-2) was tacked with the loss in Friday's contest.
The Hoosiers return to action tomorrow afternoon (1:00 PM ET/12:00 PM CT) for the second game of the Frisco Classic against undefeated and No. 25 Dallas Baptist.

On facing Alabama starter Ben Hess…
"He was on tonight and was really good. The velo was up. We knew he was going to be predominantly glove side. Once he started landing the curveball and the slider it was going to be a tough night with a guy that talented. He did a really good job and we didn't adjust.
On the plan after falling behind early…
"You plan for contingencies but you don't really plan for your starter to go one inning. With two really good teams and a midweek, you're kind of behind the eight ball really quick. We have to add pieces to our bullpen and so a bright spot was getting guys like [Brandon] Keyster and Drew [Buhr] in the game."
