Big Ten Tournament – Second Round
March 14, 2024
• Indiana (19-13) topped Penn State (16-17) by a score of 61-59 on Thursday night in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
• The Hoosiers have won five-straight games.
• IU's defense held Penn State to 16-of-58 (27.6%) shooting from the floor. The percentage marked the lowest for an Indiana opponent in the Big Ten Tournament.
• Indiana outscored Penn State by a tally of 32-18 in points in the paint.
• Sophomore center Kel'el Ware paced the Hoosiers with his 15th double-double of the season. He posted 18 points, 14 rebounds, three blocks, two steals, and one assist. His game-high 14 boards marked the second most (17 – Trayce Jackson-Davis; March 11, 2020) by a Hoosier in the Big Ten Tournament.
• Over his last five games, Ware is averaging 21.6 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per outing. He has provided four double-doubles during that stretch.
• Sophomore forward Malik Reneau tallied 12 points, eight rebounds, and two assists.
• Freshman forward Mackenzie Mgbako registered 11 points, five rebounds, two assists, and a career-high two blocks.
• Sixth-year senior guard Xavier Johnson recorded four points, six rebounds, five assists, and one block in his return to the starting lineup.
• Freshman guard Gabe Cupps posted six points, two rebounds, and two assists.
• Senior guard Anthony Leal provided eight points, four rebounds, and one steal in 24 minutes off the bench. His putback layup with five seconds left proved to be the game-winning basket. Leal also made a game-winning 3-pointer at Ohio State on Feb. 6.
• Fifth-year senior forward Anthony Walker totaled two points and one assist.
• Junior forward Payton Sparks played two minutes.
• Indiana will take on Nebraska, the third seed, in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament. Tip is scheduled for approximately 9 p.m. ET on Friday, March 15 at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
