Indiana Goes 2-0 on Second Day of Hoosier Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. ––– Indiana tallied another two wins on the day as it defeated Bowling Green, 8-0 in six innings, and Valparaiso, 8-6, on Saturday afternoon at Andy Mohr Field.
With the two wins, Indiana improves their record to 14-4.
GAME 1: INDIANA 8, BOWLING GREEN 0
KEY MOMENTS (vs. Bowling Green)
• Indiana opened the scoring with three runs in the second inning. Senior Brooke Benson had an RBI double through the left side to score Aly VanBrandt. Then, the Hoosiers added two more runs from a bases loaded walk and Benson scoring on a wild pitch to put Indiana up 3-0.
• Junior Brianna Copeland held the Falcons hitless through 4.2 innings.
• Indiana exploded to add another four innings in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sophomore Avery Parker and Benson each hit a home run to get Indiana up to a 6-0 lead.
• Redshirt senior Cora Bassett and sophomore Cassidy Kettleman both scored on the game's final play with Bassett and Kettleman each stealing a base and then both scoring on an error.
GAME 2: INDIANA 8, VALPARAISO 6
KEY MOMENTS
• Valparaiso started the game off up 2-0 from a two-run home run in the top of the first inning.
• Indiana responded in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI double from Avery Parker and Parker later scoring on an error to make it a 2-2 game.
• In the third inning, Valparaiso hit another home run, but Indiana followed with a two-run home from junior Taylor Minnick to put Indiana up 4-3.
• Benson followed with a two-run home run of her own in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 6-3. This was Benson's second home run of the day.
• Valparaiso would score three runs in the top of the fifth to make it a tied game at 6-6.
• In the bottom of the sixth inning, Copeland doubled to left center field and brought in Freshman Alex Cooper to take the lead, 7-6. In the next at-bat, Minnick singled to right field and scored Copeland to put the score at 8-6.
• Copeland threw three-straight strikeouts to end the game and secure the win in the top of the seventh.
NOTABLES
• Copeland recorded a career high 11 strikeouts against Bowling Green.
• Indiana hit a combined four home runs in both games with Parker, Minnick and Benson all going yard. Benson hit two home runs.
• Indiana posted their fifth shutout of the season in the win over Bowling Green.
• Bassett had two stolen bases against Bowling Green.
• For the weekend, Parker is hitting for a .625 batting average.
