Hoosiers Battle on Day One in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. – Indiana Track and Field sprinters, jumps, pole vaulters and mid-distance groups opened up their season at Louisiana State's Battle on the Bayou. The Hoosiers saw six personal bests and seven top-10 finishers in their first events of the outdoor season.
Antonio Laidler finished eighth in the 200 Meters with a time of 20.84, just .04 off his personal best time as he began his outdoor season.
Alex Smith led the group in the Long Jump with a mark of 7.11m/23-04. Garrett Messer also added a personal best jump of 6.47m/20-7.75 in his first outdoor competition.
Serena Bolden earned a top-three finish in the Long Jump after recording a mark of 6.07m/19-11.00.
The mid-distance group had a good start to the season with two top-10 finishes and personal bests in the 1500m. Martin Segurola clocked a time of 3:47.01 while teammate Andrew Mangum rounded out the top-10 with a personal best time of 3:47.22.
Nathan Stone closed out the meet with a fourth-place finish in the pole vault, clearing a height of 5.15m/16-10.75. It was a tight finish between four guys as they attempted what would be a personal best height of 5.30m/17-04.50 for Stone.
Up next, the Hoosiers will close out the weekend in Baton Rouge tomorrow for the final day of LSU's Battle on the Bayou.
