Indiana Softball to Host Purdue for Wednesday Doubleheader

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –––– Indiana will be back at Andy Mohr Field on Wednesday to host Purdue for a rescheduled doubleheader.
The Hoosiers and Boilermakers will play the first game at 5 p.m. and the second at approximately 7:30 p.m. tomorrow.
The original date of the games was supposed to be April 3, but it was postponed due to inclement weather.

QUICK HITTERS:
- Junior Sarah Stone earned herself Big Ten Player of the Week honors for her stellar play at Michigan State last weekend. Stone went 6-for-10 (.600) from the plate in the series with two home runs and five RBI.
- In Indiana's 6-2 win in eight innings on Friday, Stone was crucial to the Hoosiers' success. She went 4-for-4 from the plate with two home runs and four RBI. Her second home run came in the top of the eighth inning. With the game tied at 1-1, Stone hit a go-ahead three-run home run to put Indiana up 4-1.
- Five different Hoosiers in the lineup have posted 20-plus RBI on the season, including Taylor Minnick (38), Sarah Stone (31), Avery Parker (26), Brianna Copeland (24) and Cora Bassett (22).
- Indiana leads the Big Ten in home runs (44) and stolen bases (87).
- Three Hoosiers are hitting .350 or better from the plate: Aly VanBrandt (.363), Taylor Minnick (.362) and Brianna Copeland (.350).
LAST TIME OUT:
- Last weekend, Indiana went to East Lansing, Mich. and earned a three-game sweep over Michigan State. No game was decided by less than four runs.
- In addition to Sarah Stone's big-time performance in the Friday win, junior Brianna Copeland also had an impressive series against the Spartans, particularly in the 7-2 win on Sunday.
- Copeland did a little bit of everything on Sunday, including hitting a lead-off home run in the top of the first inning to start the game and then turned in one of her best pitching performances of her career. Copeland had a career-high 12 strikeouts while only allowing four hits and two runs. She threw a complete game, as well.
- Taylor Minnick hit .385 for the Michigan State series with three doubles and two RBI. Two of her three doubles came in the Sunday win, and both were nearly home runs.
- In her return to her home state, freshman Aly VanBrandt hit .300 on the weekend with two RBI.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT:
- Purdue enters the midweek doubleheader with a 17-18 record and a 5-4 record in the Big Ten. The overall record will change though after Tuesday as the Boilermakers host Indiana State.
- Purdue has won five in a row after starting 0-4 in Big Ten play. They began the conference slate getting swept at Michigan, then dropped the first game of their series versus Rutgers and have won five in a row since, including a home sweep of Iowa.
- Purdue uses a number of arms in the circle with six pitchers being regularly used. Kendall Klochack and Julia Gossett have gotten the most work. Klochack has a 4-3 record with a 3.27 ERA in 20 appearances with Gossett posting a 3.93 ERA, a 6-6 record and 48 strikeouts with 18 appearances.
- The Boilers' top bat is Khloe Banks who is hitting .363 with 33 hits, 14 RBI and one home run. Five Purdue hitters have a .300 or better batting average.
SERIES NOTES:
- Indiana leads the all-time series against Purdue, 42-41.
- The Hoosiers have won the last six meetings over the Boilermakers dating back to the 2021 season.
