BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The Soccer Tournament – the $1 million, winner-take-all, seven-versus-seven world championship – on Tuesday (May 7) announced the group pairing and schedule for Hoosier Army (Indiana Alumni) as a part of its official 48-team men's field in Cary, N.C. from June 5-10.
The men's field is split into 12 groups of four teams. Hoosier Army will headline Group K, which also features Georgetown Alumni, Freedom United (Air Force Alumni) and Trident FC.
Hoosier Army will kick off group play against Trident FC on Wednesday, June 5, at 10:30 a.m. ET.
Its second match will mark a sort of rematch of the 2012 NCAA College Cup final, as the IU alumni face Georgetown Alumni at 7 p.m. ET on opening day. Hoosier Army's roster features six members of Indiana's 2012 championship team: Jacob Bushue, Nikita Kotlov, Matt McKain, Harrison Petts, Luis Soffner and Joe Tolen.
Hoosier Army will close group play against Freedom United Thursday, June 6, at 7:30 p.m. ET. Fans can stream all three group stage matches at thetournament.com.
Hoosier Army made history in the 2023 tournament, winning the first-ever match 5-2 over Borussia Dortmund. The Indiana alumni team won its next group play match against Kingdom FC in a thrilling "target score" finish as goalkeeper Christian Lomeli – currently an assistant coach for the collegiate team – scored the winning goal with both teams down to two men. The Hoosiers shared the best record (2-1) in their group through three games but slipped out of the tournament on goal differential after falling to the eventual champion, Newtown Pride FC.
TST's 48-team men's field also includes international clubs like Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, Wrexham, Borussia Dortmund, Villarreal, Como 1907 and Burnley FC.
Participants in this year's tournament include soccer stars Sergio Aguero (Aguero Team), Nani (Nani FC), and Mario Balotelli (Nani FC), former NFL stars Pat McAfee (The Concafa SC), J.J. Watt (Burnley), and Chad OchoCinco Johnson (Nati SC), among many others.
