ANAHEIM, Calif. – The summer of volleyball will continue for rising sophomore Ramsey Gary. The standout libero was named among the 12 players selected to the final roster for the U21 NORCECA Continental Championship in Toronto this month, as announced by USA Volleyball on Monday morning (June 24).
Gary, who broke onto the scene as a freshman in Bloomington, is making her first trip through the youth ranks in the USA Volleyball system. She participated in the Women's Collegiate National Team training program back in February and was selected to the initial 20-person U21 National Team in the spring.
She was the only back row player selected to the 12-person travel roster and will serve as the starting libero in Toronto as the U.S. U21 Women's National Team looks to secure a bid to the 2025 Women's U21 World Championships. Gary was one of four current Big Ten players to make the team.
In her freshman season at IU, Gary broke the single season digs record and single season freshman digs record with 530 pickups in 33 games. She finished the campaign with 10+ digs in 31 of 33 contests and had a run of seven-straight games in Big Ten play with 20-or-more digs (10/11-11/3).
Gary was a Big Ten All-Freshman Team and Second Team All-Big Ten selection. She also earned AVCA Northeast All-Region Honorable Mention honors for her prolific first year of college volleyball. Gary and rising senior setter Camryn Haworth form one of two returning setter and libero duos to earn Big Ten honors in 2023 (Nebraska).
The USA will feature in Group A and play matches against the Dominican Republic (June 25), Suriname (June 26) and Puerto Rico (June 27). The top six teams in the tournament will advance to an elimination bracket that culminates with the Gold Medal match on June 30. The top four teams qualify their respective nations into the 2025 Women's U21 World Championships.
