BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Twenty Indiana University athletes and coaches are participating in the 2024 Paris Games July 27-Aug. 10.
IU athletics will update this story each day.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 10
Team Canada closed out Olympic play in eighth place as it fell to Greece 19-10 at the Aquatic Centre. Jessica Gaudreault played 24 minutes in the cage with five saves.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 9
Competing for the fourth consecutive day at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Friday, Carson Tyler participated in the men's platform event — his second event in his Olympic debut. After placing fourth on the springboard Thursday, Tyler couldn't quite replicate the form he showed at the NCAA Championships in March, where he won his second-straight platform national title. The 20-year-old placed 19th in Friday's prelim, just 2.5 points short of the cutline. Still, Tyler made history as the first American to compete in both individual diving events since Mark Ruiz in 2000.
Canadian water polo athletes Jessica Gaudreault and Shae La Roche will make Indiana University's final mark at the 2024 Paris Games. Saturday at 2 a.m. ET, Canada will face Greece in the 7th/8th place game.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 8
Carson Tyler finished fourth in the men's individual springboard final Thursday, his Olympic debut event. Tied as the youngest competitor in the final at 20-years-old, Tyler showed mastery of his low degree of difficulty list, scoring 429.25 points. Tyler will look to take his momentum into the platform event — the final competition on IU's Olympic schedule — beginning Friday at 4 p.m. ET. The Indiana senior has won the last two NCAA Championships in the event.
Fellow senior Mariah Denigan was part of history, swimming the women's marathon swimming event in the River Seine Thursday. Denigan finished 16th in unique conditions with a time of 2:06:42.90. She made history in February as the first Hoosier to qualify for an Olympics in open water swimming. Denigan and teammate Katie Grimes were just the third and fourth Americans to represent the United States in the event all-time.

With a total 438.00, Tyler scored 48.20 points better than his prelim showing and was 27.05 points off the top three. The NCAA Champion in the event will battle for the podium Thursday at 9 a.m. ET.
Tyler's Hoosier training partner and Tokyo silver medalist Andrew Capobianco finished 15th in the same event. Capobianco handled his high degree of difficulty list until the fourth round, as he couldn't reach vertical on his 207C. He recovered with scores of 81.90 and 83.60 in the final rounds yet couldn't make up enough ground to advance.

Tyler placed 10th with a score of 389.80, recovering from 19th place after four rounds as each of his final two dives scored 73.50 points. Capobianco, a three-time NCAA Champion in the event, also ended well with final dives of 76.05 and 79.80 to take the No. 15 position. The Hoosier duo will dive again at 4 a.m. ET Wednesday, looking to finish top 12 and make Thursday's final. Scores do not carry over from round to round.
In quarterfinal water polo action at the Aquatic Centre, Canada fell 18-8 to Spain as IU alums Jessica Gaudreault and Shae la Roche both started for their home country in the effort. Gaudreault made nine saves while la Roche saw 17 minutes of action in the pool. They will play their final game on Thursday in placement games. In her last-ever Olympic race, King swam the breaststroke leg in 1:04.90 and was joined by Regan Smith, Gretchen Walsh and Torri Huske in setting the new standard in 3:49.63. With the result, the Americans topped the medal leaderboard in swimming with eight gold medals between men and women.

Although Peplowski swam the second-fastest time of the Americans in prelims, the U.S. subbed in three athletes — including now 13-time medalist Katie Ledecky — for the final swim. The medal comes as IU's second of the 2024 Paris Games, as Blake Pieroni also earned a silver medal in the men's 4x200-meter relay.
In her final individual Olympic swim, Lilly King placed eighth in the 200-meter breaststroke. The three-time Olympian is expected to swim the women's 4x100-meter medley relay later this week as Team USA's top swimmer in the 100-meter breaststroke.
