BLOOMINGTON, Ind. ––– As the fourth week of fall camp continues, redshirt junior defensive back Jamier Johnson and redshirt senior running back Ty Son Lawton addressed the media inside Memorial Stadium on Wednesday (August 21).
Below is a partial transcript of the press conference, while video of the media sessions can be found on the right sidebar at IUHoosiers.com.
On how the scrimmage went yesterday and how the fall scrimmages have gone compared to the spring…
JJ: I think it went good. Making no mistakes that's what coach has harped on, making no mistakes every day and getting better. Just working on getting better so I think it went good.
On playing for (Bryant) Haines…
JJ: He's a great coach, on and off the field really. We put trust in him in putting us in the right position to be successful.
On what's been unique playing for this staff and their approach
JJ: Obviously different, getting used to different schemes, different formalities, different ways of talking, all of that stuff. It's been a good transition thus far.
Ty Son Lawton | R-Sr. | RB
On his football journey...
TL: Honestly, no I didn't [plan on still playing college football]. I wanted to declare for the NFL after my fifth year but then I got hurt, so I hit the portal and [Curt] Cignetti gave me an opportunity at JMU. I had a great time there and luckily for me he had a job offering here and he invited me again, so I am very blessed for the opportunity.
On the competition level in the running backs room...
TL: We got a lot of [experience] and I feel like we're very versatile. We have a lot of guys that can do a lot of different things. So, we are kind of deep and I am excited for this season to see how we do.
On the depth at running back...
TL: It just lets us know that we have to keep going. We can't take any practice for granted, make sure we stay healthy, stay in the training room and do all the little things right. Also making sure that coach trusts us when we go out there on Saturdays.
