Hoosiers Set Volleyball Match Themes, 50th Year Anniversary Celebration

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Ahead of a season that features 15 home matches for the first time in five years, the Indiana Volleyball team announced theme nights and promotions for a number of its Big Ten home contests.
Wilkinson Hall, which opened in 2019, saw a massive attendance boost in 2023 and will welcome some of the nation's best programs for the upcoming season. Big Ten newcomers USC and UCLA will play in Bloomington for the first time while regional opponents Illinois, Purdue and Ohio State make regularly scheduled appearances.
The Hoosiers will also host five non-conference matches including games against in-state foes Notre Dame and Ball State. The home opener will take place on Labor Day against UC-Davis.
Nine of the 10 Big Ten home games will feature match themes, encouraging the IU faithful to participate and bring an extra boost of spirit to the competitive matches. The conference home slate begins on a Friday night (Oct. 4) against Michigan State with all home fans asked to wear red.
The Hoosiers will play five home matches in each of September, October and November. IU will finish the regular season at home over Thanksgiving Break against Michigan (Nov. 27) and Illinois (Nov. 29). Seven different seniors, including All-American Camryn Haworth, will be celebrated against Illinois.
2024 will mark the 50th season that Indiana Volleyball has played as a varsity sport. Over the course of the season, the Hoosiers will take a look back at their history and celebrate the future of the fast-growing sport. IU played its varsity season in 1975. The NCAA officially adopted women's volleyball in 1981.
The home weekend with matches against Purdue (Nov. 8) and USC (Nov. 10) will serve as the 50th anniversary weekend and the alumni reunion weekend. IU's football program will host Michigan in the same weekend, allowing for alumni to reconnect for a multi-day celebration.
