Hoosiers Win Season Opener

KENT, Ohio ––– Indiana had a full-fledged performance on offense and defense to defeat Kent State, 3-1, in their season opener to begin the 2024 campaign with a 1-0 record.
KEY MOMENTS
• The first quarter was a defensive battle between both teams as the Hoosiers only took two shots.
• Senior back Yip Van Wonderen was able to put the ball in the back of the cage to give the Hoosiers the lead in the 23rd minute during the second quarter.
• The Hoosiers owned a 1-0 lead going into halftime, holding Kent State to zero shots in the first half.
• Freshman forward Mijntje Hagen extended Indiana's lead to 2-0, scoring in the 38th minute.
• Just a minute later, Kent State's Bella Carpenter scored in the third quarter to make it a 2-1 game.
• The Hoosiers answered right back in the 43rd minute to take a 3-1 lead. Sophomore midfielder Inés Garcia Prado scored the goal on an assist by junior back Emma Thompson.
